The call to worship was followed by the singing of God Whose Almighty Word, with Nancy Park as organist. The children’s time followed prayers of pardon. With the singing of the hymn, This is the Day that God Has Made, the children went downstairs for Sunday school. Rev. Cook’s message was Words, Words, Words. The offering was received and prayers concluded the service. The final hymn was Will Your Anchor Hold?. Nov. 25 is communion. Nov. 28, Knox United Church Women are holding their Christmas potluck at noon. Bring a friend and enjoy a time of fellowship. Special offering will be made for Christian Blind Mission. Dec. 2 is white gift Sunday. PAGE 14. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2007. Auburn Women’s Institute held a meeting on Nov. 15 at the Auburn Community Hall. Guest speakers were Allison Foran and Sherry Foran (nee Plaetzer). Sherry spoke briefly about how much more connected the countries of the world are now, as trends toward immigration and efforts to help Third World countries develop. She overviewed an initiative of the School of Nursing at the University of Western Ontario, to help develop nursing education in Rwanda. Sherry introduced her daughter Allison, a first-year medical students. She spoke about an AIDS program that she was part of in the Philippines this year. She showed slides depicting various elements of her experience and highlighted how charity helps meet the healthcare and educational needs of the children there. The WI presented Allison with a donations towards the AIDS program. A charity auction was held with the proceeds going to the Christmas Bureau of the Children’s Aid Society. Money and a variety of articles were donated to the Christmas Bureau. The Christmas meeting, which will be a potluck will be Dec. 13 at 12:30 p.m. at the Auburn Community Hall. The Auburn and District Lions Club hosted the District A-9 cabinet meeting on Sunday, Nov. 18. About 60 Lions sat down to a roast beef dinner prepared by the Lions Club of Auburn. The winner of the hockey draw for Nov. 10 is Joan Grigg, while Rob Hoggarth won Nov. 17. In the season Festive music took to the streets in downtown Blyth on Friday night for the annual Lighting of the Lights. The Blyth United Church kids choir sang a number of selections to the delight of shoppers. (Vicky Bremner photo) The Walkerburn Club met at the home of Vera Penfound on Nov. 12. There were seven members and one little guest. Bernice Norman opened the meeting with In Flanders Field. She read the Parable of the Young Man and Old. A moment of silence was observed, then followed by the singing of O’ Canada. Mrs. Norman read Oh God of Love, Oh God of Peace. Betty Archambault read the minutes. It was noted that the form for the 2008 quilt auction for breast cancer had to be submitted by Nov. 30. The crib quilt that was submitted for this year had a bid of $210. This is the 10th quilt the the club has had auctioned for this project. Ila Cunningham gave the treasurer’s report. Donations have been made to Red Cross and for Christmas gifts for four residents of Restview Home in Clinton. The roll call was answered by remembering someone who served in past wars. The next meeting will be at Eileen McClinchey’s on Jan. 14. Mrs. Norman will be in charge of the program Nov. 27, the ladies will again travel to Restview Retirement Home in Clinton to sing Christmas carols with the residents. Dorothy Schneider read a poem that was written by a marine who was stationed overseas. An auction followed with proceeds going to the Christmas Bureau and the Salvation Army. Members were reminded to have their quilt blocks embroidered and ready to hand in at the next meeting. A social time was enjoyed as was the cake baked by Mrs. Norman. Vera Penfound served fresh grape juice, tea and coffee. Erin is the granddaughter of Jewel Plunkett of Auburn and daughter of Leonard and Marie Lobb. Erin will have the honour of carrying the Olympic torch. To earn this privilege, Erin entered a contest with approxi- mately 6,000 other contestants. Erin will be carrying the torch as a tribute to her late uncle, Rob Plunkett. Congratulations Erin.
