The game was close, however, Blyth held off a Brussels attack late in the game to hold on for a victory. Brussels came out strong and scored quickly when Jasmine Vader bulged the twine for her first goal of the season. Nick McArter picked up the assist. Avery McArter lit the light twice. Noah Terpstra scored two more for the visitors and Jarron Thompson finished the scoring for Brussels. Lighting the light for Blyth were Carson Richmond, Damon Allen with two, Ethan Coultes, Bailey Bos and Jarred Shearer with two. Assists went to Drew VanWyk, Bos and Shearer with two. Mitch McNichol was solid in net making many great saves. The final score was 7-5 for Blyth. Darren Evans did a solid job in his first game between the pipes for Brussels. Blyth Senior Tykes now have one win and two losses. Their next home game is Sunday, Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. Assistant coach Andrew Wharton was “very impressed with the team’s passing and shooting, which contributed to their first victory.” Brussels battles Blyth Tykes The Blyth Bulldog Novice hockey team played two games this past weekend and came away with a win and a loss. Saturday the squad travelled to Monkton and won 11-6. Scoring for Blyth were Brenden Howson, Chad Treble, Cody Treble and Gavin Workman. Picking up assists were Owen Andrews, Dawson Coultes, Howson, Morgan Howson, Colton Rodgers, Chad Treble and Jeremy Wilts. Samantha Kerr played a solid game in net for her first victory of the year. Sunday’s game was against an aggressive Wingham team. The final score was 10-5 in the opponent’s favour. Blyth scorers were B. Howson and the Treble boys. Assists went to B. Iceman Bruce Pewtress has the ice in top shape. This year, the rings are red and blue with the outer rings in blue. Something new this year is that the four-foot lines down the length of the ice are edged on the outer sides in what some are describing as “breast cancer promotional pink.” On ice two and three the ‘little rockers’ circles are situated at the half-way point. *** In the Belgrave league on Thursday, Nov. 8, Fred Meier downed Murray Shiell 7-4. Tim Coultes was a runaway winner defeating Lloyd Michie 10- 4 and Niel Edgar in a high scoring game, beat Murray McNichol 11-6. In a close one it took an extra end as Don Shiell eked out a win over John Nixon. ***In Nov. 9 Friday mixed curling itwas Ben Proctor, 9, Bill McDonald, 7 and Barry Simpson showing no mercy with a 12-5 victory over Lynn Hickey. *** Six teams were on hand for ladies’ Tuesday night exercise and enjoyment with Sue Fair, 8, Jill Eadie, 2; Sandra Morrison doubling Carol Horton 4-2 and Amy Miller’s crew in top form with a one-sided 8-1 victory over Mary Henry. *** In the Wednesday mixed league all scores were a little one-sided Aart DeVos was an 11-2 winner over Steve Burke. Byron Horton was a giant killer with a 9-2 victory over Earl Fitch, while Byron’s dad Wayne Horton lost to Dean Newson 8-3. *** In daytime curling on Monday, Nov. 12 action the results were: Jim Coultes, 10, Wendall Stamper, 3; Nelson Frank, 9, John Mann, 5; BillDeans, 11, Mac Inglis, 2; NormFairles, 11, Bruce Robertson, 3. Play was closer in the afternoon with the results being: Stewart Leedham, 7, Irving Elliott, 5; Ivan Dow, 8, Les Shaw, 5 and Ross Peacock, 10, Bob Johnston, 7. *** In daytime action on Thursday it seemed as if a team was hot they were really hot and if bad, they were really bad. This was reflected in the scores: Irving Elliott, 9, Bruce Roberton, 4; Bill Deans, 10; Norm Fairles, 8; Ross Peacock, 8, Stewart Leedham, 6 and Jim Coultes, racking up his fourth win to remain undefeated with a 16-4 victory over Bob Johnston. In afternoon action there were no close games as Wendell Stamper defeated John Mann 12-4, Les Shaw was a big winner over Nelson Frank and Ivan Dow was a runaway winner over Mac Inglis.
