HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2007-11-15, Page 23Ring in the festive season with
lively fiddle tunes and high stepping
dancers as Scott Woods presents Old
Time Christmas.
This special concert will be held
on Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. at the
Central Huron Secondary School in
Clinton.
This concert is being hosted by St.
James Anglican Church, Middleton
and Town and Country Support
Services.
This fast paced, two-hour concert
combines country gospel, perennial
favourites and a generous helping of
humour.
Audience members will be treated
to one of Canada’s best talents –
Woods – known as the fiddler with
the flying fingers and the magic bow.
Woods is a fiddling sensation and
has performed to enthusiastic
audiences throughout Canada, the
U.S. and in Holland.
Woods has captured all the major
Canadian fiddling titles, including
the Canadian Open Fiddle
Champion, Canadian Grand Masters
Fiddling Champion, and the
Canadian Fiddle Entertainer of the
year.
For seven years he was the musical
director and played the part of Don
Messer in Memories of Don
Messer’s Jubilee, the tribute show
which toured across Canada. In
addition, he has several recordings to
his credit.
As a young boy, Woods studied
classical violin. He plays several
other instruments, but his favourite
is fiddle – whether it’s classical,
jazz, big band, country, swing, Celtic
or old time music.
Old Time Christmas promises to
put everyone in the festive mood
with a show that features a six piece
band, including Ivan Felker on guitar
and vocals, Karl Watson on bass,
Bruce Woods on drums and fiddle,
Carolyn Woods on piano and Kendra
Woods Norris on fiddle, accordion
and clarinet.
The show also features the talents
of guest vocalist, Gini Williams. She
has appeared many times with the
Scott Woods Show over the past 18
years. Her warm, mellow voice is a
treat, especially on the seasonal
songs.
Meryl Norris adds her step
dancing talents along with Linsey
Beckett on dance and fiddle and
Tyler Beckett on drums and fiddle.
This concert is a joint fundraising
event for St. James Anglican
Church, Middleton and Town and
Country Support Services. The
auditorium at Central Huron
Secondary School is a spacious
venue for the concert and the facility
is wheelchair accessible. Following
the concert there will be an
opportunity to meet the performers
and enjoy a reception with
Christmas treats and hot cider.
Tickets are available in advance
and at the door at $15 each for adults
and $5 for children 12 and under,
from Town and Country Support
offices in Wingham, Clinton and
Exeter; Ernie King Music in
Goderich and Wingham; Maple and
Moose in Blyth; Sweets, Treats and
Memories in Clinton; Pete’s Paper

Church or by calling Shelley at 482-
