Sleepy time
It was PJ day at Walton Little School and a meet the teacher night. Parents, families and staff
dressed for the evening, visited, and enjoyed cake. School kitchen staff Val Shortreed gets
down to the pleasure of story time with, from left: Jenna Swart, Tory Daw, Brendon Bull, Cole
Zwep, Dustin Fritz and Emma Silcock. (Bonnie Gropp photo)
Walton has another little boy to
add to the list. Proud parents Jason
and Erin Baan welcomed Griffin to
their family last Wednesday. Big
sister Cadi is excited and
grandparents Dave and Dianne Baan
are thrilled.
That’s five baby boys in a month.
At this rate,Walton will have enough
for a ball team in a few years.
You would also have to feel sorry
for a poor junior kindergarten
teacher in the future, but because of
where Walton is situated, these little
boys will go to three different
schools — Blyth, Seaforth and Grey
Central.
Well, the November deer hunt has
ended and was quite successful,
according to most report. Paul
Kirkby’s group managed to get six,
the Siemon gang got 15, White gang
got 21 and the Glanville gang
bagged 24.
That’s 66 deer that won’t be
running into cars.
I’m sure the remaining deer are
breathing a sigh of relief that this
hunt is over, especially the eight that
were browsing our wheatfield on
Sunday morning before running
across the road into Morris, where
there was no hunting on Sunday.
Away visiting in Guelph on the
weekend were Don and Pat Nolan.
They went to visit son Mike and his
wife Leanne and grandchildren,
Brooke and Jacob. Don reports they
did nothing exciting, but had a great
time just visiting, playing with the
kids and driving around the city.
Well, the Walton turkey supper put
on by Duff’s United Church is over
and a collective sigh of relief and
exhaustion was expelled by all the
helpers. It was a fantastic turnout
with about 800 people out for turkey
dinner. Nearly 600 ate at the arena,
while 200 enjoyed takeout.
Close to 700 pounds of turkey, 400
pounds of potatoes, five bags of
turnips, 90 pounds of cabbage and
over 150 pies were prepared andserved. It’s a big job and co-ordinatorHelen Craig never seems to getruffled by the next problem. Approximately 75 people prepare, cook, slice, service, take money, selltickets, cut pack, direct, transport, wash and dry dishes to pull thisevent off. Congrats to everyone for ajob well done.
Traffic was a little slower in
Walton on Monday morning as the
paving boys were doing work on
County Road 12 in the village. They
even filled in some of the big
potholes.
The Walton Wonders slo-pitch
team held its year-end ball party on
the weekend. They participated in an
amazing/scavenger/photo race
combo event. There were five
challenges, 10 photo ops, 20 items to
collect, and 10 riddles with
corresponding items. There were
three teams and two hours to
accomplish the race.
The five categories were all related
to baseball and the league teams.
The event was organized by LeeAnn
Konarski and Sherri Taylor.
The winning team was Susan
Alexander, Glenda Morrison, Erin
Robinson and Joanna Wallace.
The team enjoyed pizza and
snacks after at LeeAnn’s home in
Seaforth.
What a great way to end the year.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Jane Zwep, Elva D.
Brown, Jeanne Kirkby, Brian Pryce,
Danielle Ducharme, Barry Hoegy
and Tristan Rijkhoff.
Moves have been made and John
W. and Elva B. Brown are now
living in Brussels.
Trevor Sutcliffe is now living on
Blyth Road in the former Harvey
Craig house.
We also welcome Heather and
Perry Clark to Walton.
