the house tour on Saturday. It was
presented by the Maple Leaf Chapter
of the IODE, Goderich.
Homes built as early as 1834 to
newer homes were decked out in
Christmas finer. There was an
endless number of ideas and unique
combinations of material and
everyday items making a one-of-a-
kind decorative piece.
The tour ended at Benmiller Inn
where hot apple cider and shortbread
cookies were served in this peaceful
riverside inn.
The ladies of Auburn and area are
busy quilting again. Money raised
from these quilting bees isused to
defray the cost of the upkeep of
Knox United Church.

Building a mystery
Gail Fricker stopped by East Wawanosh Public School last
week to teach the Grade 1 class how to use their detective
skills. She used the real story of the three little pigs and the
students built a model town and were instructed to take
down any clues when they came up. Rylan Zimmer places
a building on the edge of town while Paige Fear looks on.
The program is done in Huron and Perth and is now part of
the Grade 1/2 curriculum. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Local residents were out at areacenotaph services to remember themen and women who paid theultimate sacrifice. The Knox United Church service
was led by Rev. Pat Cook. After the
prayers and hymn of praise, My
Lord What A Morning, an act of
remembrance was led by Linda
Plaetzer, Caroline McDowell and
Lauren Cronin. They each read apassage and lit a candle. The Last Post, two minutes ofsilence and The Reveille werefollowed by the singing of O’
Canada.
Rev. Cook’s message was A New
Life. The service closed with the
hymn, Make Me a Channel of Your
Peace.
On Wednesday, Nov. 7, 44 Lions
enjoyed a beef dinner served up by
the Auburn Women’s Institute.
There were three prospective new
members along with 22 members of
the Port Stanley Lions Club who
paid a surprise visit.
