Londesborough United Church
received a gift of music on Sunday,
Oct. 21. Fourteen members of of the
Capital City Chorus filled the
sanctuary that afternoon with song.
It was a very informal presentation
but it was obvious the singers were
enjoying the time just as much as a
most appreciative audience was.
Rob Dunbar, who acted as
spokesperson for the chorus, is
Laura Scott’s cousin and the two of
them conspired to bring the group to
Londesborough. The concert was
dedicated to a young female relative
who passed away in the past month.
The entire Capital City Chorus
spent the weekend in Brantford in
competition with many other
barbershop groups. One of the
ensembles won their particular event
and will travel to Nashville to
compete in 2008.
This Ottawa group has a mixture
of ages and nationalities all of whom
love to make music. Two of the
younger members are currently in
music study courses and they
conducted when the entire group
sang.
Chorus numbers included Can You
Feel The Love from The Lion King
and When Somebody Loved Me
from Toy Story II. They noted that
they like to close with Friend, which
tugs at the heart strings.
Three different quartets
entertained. Among the numbers
offered by one foursome of men was
Wild Irish Rose. The What a Blast
group of young men jazzed things up
with their numbers including Roll
Those Bones.
Later they sang gospel numbers.
The audience surely appreciated Sit
Down,You’re Rockin’ the Boat.
The third quartet was a mixed
group. One of their tunes was In My
Room.
It was truly a pleasant hour of
music.
Jack and Helen Lee spent last
weekend with their daughter,
Beverley. They joined her at her
home in Collingwood and on Sunday
they travelled together to Toronto.
York University was holding its
2007 Convocation that weekend and
Dr. Beverley Lee, LLM, Ed.D.,
received a diploma in the Master of
Laws category, more specifically a
degree in Alternative Dispute
Resolution. Her niece and Jack and
Helen’s granddaughter, Megan Lee
of Blyth, was also in attendance for
the ceremony.
Megan has been studying atHumber College in Toronto and willgraduate from her course in interiordesign this coming Friday.Jack and Helen plan to attend thatceremony as well. Well done,Beverley and Megan. Proudoccasions for Jack and Helen.Last June Brenda Flynn and herdaughter left the small apartmentover the former general store owned
by Tom and Diane Codyre. They
now reside in Clinton where Brenda
is employed. We wish them all the
best for the future.
Soon after their move, the
apartment was rented to Steve
Burden and Cidalia Cabral; and her
daughter, Rebecca.
Rebecca, 11, is in Grade 6 a
Hullett Central School.
Cid and Rebecca lived for many
years in Cambridge and more
recently for just a year, closer to
Cid’s family in Southampton.
Cid, who left her job in Port Elgin
at the end of August, is currently
seeking employment. Steve isemployed at MDL Doors inBrussels. Welcome to the village. Wetrust you will enjoy life among us.Condolences from the village folkare offered to Barb and AllanBosman on the unexpected death ofBarb’s mother, Marion Snell.Sympathy is extended, also, to themany other relatives of Marion in thearea.
Like other women of her
generation, Marion took pleasure in
things domestic, to attending to the
needs of her family and husband.
Life on the farm west of
Londesborough brought a variety of
chores that Marion accepted
cheerfully as well. Like Martha of
Christ’s time Marion quietly brought
harmony and order to the life of her
family. A move to the village came
when Jack’s health made life on the
farm impossible.
All five of Marion’s children
received the gene of music and she
took great pride and enjoyment when
they shared that talent for theenjoyment of others. Throughout herlife the achievements andhappenings of her children and theirchildren were her greatest joy.Grandchildren spoke of Marion as a“special lady”. Some of them sharedremembrances of her at hercelebration of life service.Marion was a member of the Blythchapter of the Eastern Star and the
Londesborough United Church
where she gave many hours to
working with the UCW. Potluck
wouldn’t have been the same without
her homemade rolls.
When it came time for Marion to
switch roles and be one of the cared
for, she settled in gracefully to life at
Huronview. She appreciated the
feeling of security and enjoyed the
care and fellowship of others since
her move there last fall.
Capital City Chorus performs
All together now
Piano students of local teacher Sharon Johnston had a unique experience recently when 13
of them played 10 pianos simultaneously. The group had assembled as part of a piano
mechanics workshop for students, teachers and parents at Pianovations in Blyth. The
business offers about a dozen of these workshops per year, at no cost to participants. Past
workshops have been hosted for everything from women’s church groups to historic car clubs
to a local chapter of the Ontario Regional Music Teachers Guild. Lasting one to two hours in
length, the workshops allow participants to see the inner workings of a piano and hear an
explanation of the musical makeup. (Photo submitted)
