With Nancy Park as organist,
members of Knox United Church
were led in the service by Rev. Pat
Cook with the hymn, Come Let Us
Sing.
The children’s story was on
trusting God.
Rev. Pat had two identical boxes
with different contents.
People have to trust God, she said
and put their faith in Him. Things
are not exactly as they first appear to
be.
The Hymn of Preparation was She
Comes Sailing on the Wind.
Rev. Pat’s message was on
Amazing Grace. She encouraged
everyone to do something for
someone in need. During the day
extend a loving hand. Stay humble,
admit your mistakes and learn from
them.
Bob and Shelley Worsell collected
the offering . The closing hymn was
Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Saviour.
The junior youth group will meet
at Vanastra Rec. Centre on Nov. 2 at
7 p.m. for swimming.
Snacks and devotion will follow.
Cost is $2 per person.
Growing children
Children's performer Michael Mitchell stopped in to Hullett Central Public School last week for
two performances, one for the younger classes and one for the older classes. As Mitchell sang,
Hullett (and other area school) students stretched their arms to the sky being as big of a forest
as they could be after starting up as just seeds in the ground. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Everyone is invited to join thestudents of Hullett Central School
for a Remembrance Day service on
Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Pat Cook
will be the guest speaker. Let’s aim
for a full house and show our thanks
to the veterans for the sacrifices they
made for freedom.
Janice Hayes-Whytock is a patient
in London hospital. Our prayers and
best wishes go out to her for a
speedy recovery.
Due to a hydro outage on Saturday
evening, a candlelight dinner was
served at White Carnation, when
Goderich Lions celebrated 85 years
of Lionism. Guests were present
from surrounding clubs including
the Auburn and District Club.
Appropriately enough, the guest
speaker was Beverley Berger a
spokesperson for Guide Dog of
Canada who incidentally is visually-
challenged.
Some Auburn residents enjoyed a
spaghetti supper at the annual
fundraiser for the Seaforth and
District All Girls marching band.
The girls are working extremely
hard to raise funds for their trip to
the Dominican Republic.
The winner of his week’s Lions
hockey draw is Sue Bailey.
If you have any news call 519-

Using the three R’s (reduce,
reuse, recycle) in your home is
nothing new, but Brussels residents
will now have the option of making
the green decision on their village’s
streets.
Huron East council was quick to
carry a motion to replace the
existing garbage receptacles in
Brussels with dual-purpose units
with a compartment for garbage and
for recycling. The motion comes
after a request from the Brussels
Business Group, dated Sept. 14,
came to council at their Oct. 23
meeting and council didn’t hesitate.
Chris Ten Pas, of the Brussels
Business Group, wrote the letter,
citing the Centre for Applied
Renewable Energy in the village as
the main inspiration behind this
move.
Ten Pas also suggested leaving
the units out all year long, as long as
they aren’t in a position to disrupt
snow removal, another suggestion
that council agreed with.
The only issue, brought up by
councillor David Blaney was the
possibility of people filling up the
units with their household garbage.
However, there are units with tops
that cannot be removed, which will
be the units that council will look
into purchasing.
Several councillors were
enthusiastic that these dual-purpose
bins would encourage recycling in
the community.
