The second meeting for the
Wawanosh 4-H Club Home for the
Holidays was held on Monday, Oct.
15 at June Robinson’s at 7 p.m.
Mary Ellen Foran asked the
members to hand in their favourite
Christmas recipes. The meeting
opened with the pledge, followed by
roll call, “Name one of your
favourite recipes and why you like
it?”
Members signed up to bring a
snack from their favourite recipe for
future meetings.
They discussed Canadian
Christmas traditions. Jewish,
Poland, Holland, Italy were also
discussed. Members learned that
Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is
a holiday for the Jewish to remember
those who fought for religious
freedom. Posada is a colourful
Mexican holiday while Old
Sinterklass arrives each year in
Holland. Italy is famous for
panettone – a Christmas bread filled
with fruits.
Members were then organized into
three groups to make some
Christmas cookies. When the
cookies were baking, they worked
on Christmas carol trivia. Marta
Oudshoorn took up the answers with
the members.
The meeting ended with some
tasting of cookies.

No small task
On the afternoon of Oct. 16, a grain silo, belonging to Dennis Terpstra collapsed in the Grey
ward of Huron East. It is not yet known what caused the collapse, but Terpstra says steel
engineers are now investigating. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
