Holy! Another week of
unexpected pleasant weather – give
or take a few hours here and there of
wind and rain. It’s like getting a gift
having the warmth and sunshine in
October.
We’ve had Phil home from
Whitecourt, Alberta this past week.
So it’s been nice having him around
and catching up on life in the west.
After what has been to him a long
wait, he’s firefighting.
The safety standards in the
drilling department of gas and oil
production in Alberta are very high
so fires are very rare. The company
he works for covers a large bit of
Alberta so job sites change
often.
So he was pretty excited when a
nice little fire actually happened just
for him. Oh hurrah!
There are several relieved people
in the village today. The stewards of
the United Church are quite happy
the auction is over for another two
years. The shoppers, the folks who
got a lot of Christmas shopping
done were very pleased as well,
with the many great choices
available to be bought.
While Joshua Gropp sang for his
supper at Stratford’s Boar’s Head,
family and friends came out to listen
and helped dad Mark celebrate his
special day.
The Christmas season is sneaking
up and the skating club is promoting
the issue. They have organized a
house tour, Nov. 9 and 10 and would
love to sell you a ticket.
This is their way of supporting the
club and would appreciate your
help.
So get your ticket and enjoy all
the unique details of the nice houses
that will be displayed.
Get your bulbs planted, then read
another book.
By now, Betty G.W.
On Oct. 20, .at approximately 1:30
a.m. members of the Huron OPP
observed a suspicious motor vehicle
apparently attempt to avoid a RIDE
check on Turnberry Street in
Brussels.
The vehicle and driver were
located and a 20-year-old London
man was arrested for failing to
comply with an undertaking and
with adult possession of a controlled
substance.
The male was in the Goderich
court on Oct. 22, for a bail hearing.

Walt Berry, left, from the Listowel Rotary Club made the trip down to Brussels last week to
donate a cheque worth $500 to the school to put towards a sound system for their classrooms.
The systems work as headsets worn by the teacher that amplify the lesson through a speaker
over the class. Brussels Public School now has two of these systems. From left: Berry, Kristen
Pipe, Jenna Smith, Brody Ten Pas and Dawn Hastings of the parent-teacher board. (Shawn

Brussels Public School Council
would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in our
3rd annual Family Fun in the Fall event
The outstanding generosity of local businesses, parents, families,
volunteers, teachers, and community is so greatly appreciated. A big
thank you also to Beth Earl’s Catering for the delicious dinner. The
purpose of our event was to draw everyone together for a family
evening to celebrate our local community and small town Brussels
Public School. While at the same time we wanted to raise funds for our
school to support the Sound Field System fund and various
activities/events, as well as educational enhancements. Because of
your generous donations, and a $500 donation from the Listowel Rotary
Club, we should be able to purchase at least one of the Sound Field
Systems. It is a blessing to be a part of such a wonderful community.
