guests. She read Thanksgiving Day
at Grandpa’s.
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and Mrs. Coultes
gave the treasurer’s report. The
yearly membership dues will be
collected at the November meeting.
The fall Zone rally will be held in
Exeter on Oct. 11 beginning at 10
a.m.
The Christmas dinner for
members and guests will be held on
Friday, Dec. 7 at 12:15 p.m. The
social committee will do the table
decorations and donations to theHuron County Food Bank will bereceived.The convenors for the Shoot cardparties will be Bob and Jane Grasby
on Oct. 12 and Laura Johnston and
Freda Scott on Oct. 26.
Barbara Anderson introduced Bob
and Ruth Gordon, who spoke about
their trip to El Salvador, a country of
about 7 million people.
Almost half of the population lives
in the capital city of San Salvador.
They found the people to be friendly
and happy. Children get free
schooling up to the age of 18. Most
of the work is done without large
machinery.
They visited a coffee plantation
and other crops grown for export arecocoa beans and cashew nuts. Manykinds of fruit are grown.They saw Mayan ruins fromancient times, an active volcano and
enjoyed their holiday in a new resort.
Ruth showed pictures of the
beautiful sunsets at the beach.
Bill Coultes thanked them forsharing their story and presentedthem with a gift.The meeting closed with thesinging God Save The Queen. A
collection was gathered for the
Alzheimer’s Society during the
social time.

In Lower Lakes Female Hockey
League action, the Saugeen
Maitland Lightning AA Midgets fell
out of the running early in the
Toronto Aero’s Solid Gold
Tournament this weekend. The girls
lost 1-0 to Stoney Creek, 6-4 to
Durham West and won 6-1 against
Burlington.
The goal scorers for the Lightning
were Eastlyn Bellamy (Sauble
Beach) and Tammy Freiburger
(Wingham) with three goals each,
Ona Mezenberg (Owen Sound),
Kate Wagner (Sauble Beach),
Lindsey Ceaser (Owen Sound) and
Karissa Ross (Palmerston) all with
lone tallies.
The girls will be in action against
Chatham on Saturday at 5 p.m. and
against Sarnia on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Both games are at the Belmore
Arena.
