Locals honoured at Commencement
The county will take a look at its
zoning fees following a request from
Huron East councillor Bernie
MacLellan at the Oct. 3 meeting of
county council.
Noting that the fees were meant to
be cost-recovery, MacLellan
wondered why the same fee of
$1,500 is charged for renewals.
“Could there be a reasonable fee for
the first time when renewing.
Fifteen hundred seems a little
excessive.”
Director of planning Scott Tousaw
said that while the assumption is that
a renewal is a straightforward
repetition of the process, that’s not
necessarily the case. “There’s no
guarantee. They still have to follow
the complete public process.”
He said that for this reason when
the fee was put together there was a
“conscious decision” to keep the
renewal fee the same as the initial
cost.
However, he said they would look
at the rates again. Straight shooters
Alyssa Gross, left, and Jenna Rinn were both honoured at
last week’s Commencement ceremony at Central Huron
Secondary School as recipients of the Norman Parks
Garrett Memorial Scholarship, in addition to Darcey Cook,
which is given annually to Blyth students who choose to
pursue post-secondary education. Gross also received the
Ontario Co-operative Education Association Award, as well
as the 2007 Queen Elizabeth II Aiming for the Top
scholarship. Rinn was also awarded the Pamela King
Memorial Award in honour of her community-building spirit
at the school. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
