For the fourth year, local florists
are campaigning to raise funds for
the Huron County breast screening
clinic in Goderich.
Luann Taylor of Luann’s Country
Flowers and Gifts in Blyth and
Goderich began the Take Care
fundraiser which is held each
October in recognition of Breast
Cancer Awareness Month. A breast
cancer survivor her hope was not
just to raise funds but to remind
women to ‘take care’ of themselves.
Seven other florists have joined
Taylor in her cause: Village Vines,
Exeter; Blooms ‘n’ Rooms,Seaforth; Flower Magic, Seaforth;PerFect Designs, Clinton; Cooke’sFlorist, Clinton; Flowers on Main,Wingham and Everlastings,Lucknow.
They will be selling a dozen
carnations at $19.99 with $5 going
to the clinic. Each bouquet comes
with an information pamphlet breast
self-examination. “We want to raise
awareness and remind people to go
to the doctor,” said Taylor.
In its first year, Luann’s raised
$500 for the Take Care campaign. In
the years since that amount has
tripled annually with more florists
coming on board.
Taylor asks people to contact the
participating florist in their area to
support the cause.
