Another successful elimination
draw was held on Saturday at the
Brussels Legion Branch.
The big winner of the night was
Nelson Ryan of Walton who took
home $1,000. A great job was done
by the draw committee of Nicole and
Mike Noble, John and Ruth Lowe
and Elaine Nichol.
The fish fry served a smaller
crowd than usual. The kitchen was
staffed by Lisa Glanville, Anne
Pelletier, Mabel Glanville and Deb
Cann. Greeting everyone was the
dependable Howard Hackwell.
The outside fish fry crew included
Murray Lowe, George Adams, Jim
Alton, Lloyd Glanville, Lawrence
Machan, Norm Dobson and Sharon
Robbins. A great job was done by
Rob and Kathy Burkholder as well.
Nearly 20 comrades and friends
made a successful day complete.
Everyone enjoyed the
entertainment provided by Jim Lee
and friends.
Saturday’s euchre saw only 7 1/2
tables vying for prize money. Top
prize went to partners Bea Stoll and
Betty Hulley with 72 points. Close in
second place were Helen Dobson
and Elaine Nichol with 70 points.
There was a tie for third place with
69 points for Eileen Mann, Florence
Brought, Ariel Woods and Hazel.
Low prize went to Edith Pushelberg
and Georgia Eckmeier. Lone hand
prizes went to Gloria Love and Tom
Sloan.
Cards are every two weeks.
The Sunday night dance had
nearly 100 out to enjoy the music of
the Country Versatiles.
September is nearly over and the
first early bird draw for members’
dues for 2009 will be made next
Sunday, Sept. 30. Pay your 2008
dues now and get your name in for
the draw for all three early-bird
draws for September, October and
November.
Also pay the early bird price of
$45 instead of $50 after Dec. 1.
New members are always
welcome to join the Legion. No
veteran affiliation is required, just a
desire to support those who fought
for the freedom of Canadians and
others, to support the youth of the
community, the community and the
Branch. Membership chairman Greg
Wilson is the man to talk to.
THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2007. PAGE 27. For the past 12 years the BlythFestival has been proud to present anannual Theatre-for-Young-
Audiences show that allows local
kids to take part in a live interactive
theatrical experience. This year’s
presentation, Rumplestiltskin, will
include performances on Oct. 16, 17
and 18 at 10:15 a.m and 1:15 p.m. on
the Blyth Festival stage in the
beautiful Blyth Memorial
Community Hall.
Rumpelstiltskin is a dwarf
character in a fairy tale of the same
name that originated in Germany
(where he is known as
Rumpelstilzchen). In order to make
himself appear more important, a
miller lied to the king that his
daughter could spin straw into gold.
The king called for the girl, shut her
in a tower room with straw and a
spinning wheel, and demanded that
she spin the straw into gold by
morning, for three nights, or be
executed. She had given up all
hope, when Rumpelstiltskin
appeared in the room. The tale was
collected by the Brothers Grimm,
who first published it in the 1812
edition of Children's and Household
Tales. It was subsequently revised in
later editions until the final version
was published in 1857.
Since 1992, the Nearly World
Famous DuffleBag Theatre has
become one of the most celebrated
companies at festivals and schools
across the country. The DuffleBag
actors begin the retelling of original
adaptations of select fairytales and
Shakespearean classics full of wit
and humour. Students are able to
participate fully – some even being
invited to come up on stage and join
the action. It is a truly unpredictable
and interactive experience for all
ages!
Tickets are only $7, but they are
selling fast and only limited space is
available.
This presentation is more than justgreat entertainment for kids – It is anopportunity to introduce a new
generation to the wonder and value
of live Canadian theatre.
“When kids come into the theatre
and see their first live, professional
performance, they engage
completely. It's always a thrill to
watch their eyes light up as they fall
in love with the show,” said artistic
director, Eric Coates. For more information on thispresentation or to book tickets please
