Huron County was well
represented at the 2007 IPM in
Leeds-Grenville County at Crosby.
Six people plowed with the Huron
Queen Mallory Kernighan finishing
fourth in plowing and as third
runner-up for the title of Ontario
Queen of the Furrow. Mallory is the
daughter of Mark and Nancy
Kernighan of RR3, Auburn.
Brandon McGavin did Huron
proud bringing home lots of
hardware. He was champion of
Class II Group 1 and (under 16
class) also Champion Junior Tractor
plowperson, winning the Sidney
Sisler Memorial trophy. McGavin
also won the Elliott Moses Award.
This was special to him, his father,
Brian and grandfather Neil, as
Moses was an OPA director with
Brandon’s great-grandfather Gordon
McGavin. Brandon is the son of
Brian and Shelby McGavin of
Walton.
Others who did very well were
Jacob McGavin, Paul Dodds, Shawn
Flanagan, and Darryl O’Rourke.
Don Dodds represented Huron as
one of the IPM judges.
Graeme Craig as the county’s
provincial director was busy. He will
be president of OPA when the IPM
comes to Bruce County at Teeswater
in September 2008.
Many local people attended this
year’s IPM and enjoyed the warm
weather, the scenery with the trees
turning colours and the many boat
marinas and cottages.
