There are plenty of get-well
wishes to pass along this week.
We hope George Blake is coming
along well since his release from
hospital.Having surgery last week as wellwas Ernst Gubelmann and JimBlake. We hope both men take iteasy and feel better.Marg Bennett had eye surgery andis doing just great.Bob Dalton is back in hospital andwe hope he feels better soon.A family birthday get-together washeld for Ron and Pauline Bennett at
the Seaforth Legion on Sunday. The
family enjoyed th roast beef dinner
being put on by the Legion, then
gathered together with everyone at
home. The number 80 makes it a
special birthday for Ron on Sept. 27.Pauline’s birthday is in earlyOctober. It was nice to see Joyce Marcuccioback at the Walton Inn cooking. She’s been off for a while and upnorth with her mom helping her copewith some health problems.Walton is looking a little spiffierwith painting crews around.Buildings at the Ryans and
Hackwells received paint jobs last
week and look great.
The new building at McGavin’s is
progressing. The crane at work was
really interesting to my kids on the
bus. “Can we stay here and watch?”
was suggested by some but alas we
had to travel on to school.
What wonderful weather we had
last week. The Brussels fair was a
great success and is one of the best
fairs around. Exhibits were up in
some areas and down in others, but
on the whole a great fair.
The weather has also been great
for the white bean and soybean
harvest and for planting winter
wheat. Every day last week saw big
changes on the bus route as the crops
were cleaned off.
Something new for some of my
children to see was bean pullers in
the field and the beans in windrows.
It seems more farmers have gone to
combining white beans straight with
the use of the flexhead and air reels,
so this was unique for them to see.
Congratulations to newlyweds
Steve Knight and Marnie Dingman
who were married on Saturday. It
was a gorgeous day for the nuptials
and the long awaited event.
Following the wedding at
Cranbrook’s Knox Presbyterian
Church, the guests were invited to
the Knight farm for a group photo.
The Knight family found a group
photo of a wedding many years ago
that was taken on the front lawn and
wanted to create a unique memory of
this wedding with the same type of
photo.
The reception was held at the
BMG arena and a great party it was.
A unique way to get the couple to
kiss, was the telling of a joke or story
about the couple. The group was
warned by MCs Kendra Cardiff and
Kevin Deitner that since the press
reporter for the Walton News was
present (that’s me) to keep them
clean as they could make the news.
It was a wonderful evening with
many a laugh shared by all in the
relating of the journey of Steve and
Marnie, to get to their wedding day.
Since Marnie has been in our
community for the past four years, it
is past welcoming her, but we are
pleased to know we will be keeping
her. Congrats to Steve and Marnie.
Attending the Knight Dingman
wedding was Steve’s sister Joanne
and family. Joanne along with
husband Weldon and children
Andrew and Allison flew in from
New Brunswick for the special
occasion. They were put right to
work as Weldon was elected to hang
the ceiling decorations at the BMG.
Weldon took it in stride but
predicted, the coming down was
going to be easier.
Another get-well wish goes out to
Emerson Mitchell who had hip
surgery last week. He is now a
patient at Seaforth Hospital and we
hope he comes along well and ishome soon.Flying in for a week’s visit withmother Karin McDonald Calhoun isdaughter Kendra Warwick fromCalgary. She will be here to helpMom and catch up with the rest ofthe McDonald family.Brian Marks returned to Calgarylast week after extending his visit bya couple of weeks.
More get-well wishes go out to
Christine Behnk in Seaforth hospital.
Many will remember Christine from
her time as cook at the Walton Inn.
The Walton Women’s Institute met
at Margaret McInroy’s home in
Blyth. There were six members
present.
The Ambassador contestant for
Brussels Agriculture Society,
sponsored by the Walton Institute,
Maddy Deitner, was in attendance.
Maddy was runner-up. She thanked
the ladies for their support and gift
and recited her speech for the group.
Services at Duff’s United Church
will be at the normal time of 9:30
a.m. this week. It will be muffin
Sunday, so plan on staying for a
short social time after church.
Sunday school has resumed and it
would be great to have more children
in attendance.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week are Heather McGavin Kelso,
Mike Boven, Clarence Flood, Ben
Driscoll, Bruce Whitmore, Darrel
Hastings, Lucas Godkin, Sean
Kirkby, Tim Nolan, Peggy Ryan
Sloan, Karen Hoegy, Ashley
Stevenson, Raymond Wilts,

Willamson and Gary Sutcliffe.
Showin’ them up
Laura Higgins, left, took home top honours in the
showperson category at this year’s Brussels Fall Fair 4-H
beef show last week. Ambassador Sara Baker, right,
awarded Higgins, presented her with her trophy and ribbon
for her achievement. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Best in show
Tyler MacPherson took home the honour of Champion Calf
at this year’s Brussels Fall Fair 4-H beef show last week.
MacPherson, seen here being awarded his ribbon and
trophy from this year’s Ambassador Sara Baker, worked
through a long afternoon with his animal, but it all paid off
when he came out on top. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Just missed
Dan Shapton, left, took home two runner up awards, coming
up just short in both categories, placing as reserve calf and
reserve showman at this year’s Brussels Fall Fair 4-H beef
show last week, being presented his awards by this year’s
Ambassador Sara Baker, who also competed in the show
this year. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
