THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2007.Look for Walton to make a guest appearance on YTV and FOX Kids later this year, but it might look a little muddy. A near-40-person crew stopped into Walton last week for two days of shooting for a new show called The Adrenaline Project, which is set to air on YTV on Sept. 29. The show, which is described by the executive producer and creator, Matt Hornburg, as “a fear factor for kids” will air on Saturday nights on YTV in Canada and on Saturday mornings on FOX Kids in the United States, starting Sept. 29. Chris Lee opened his track to the show after being contacted around a month ago, right around the time he hosted the Walton TransCan race. Lee said it was great to have the crew around for the two days and they had a great time, but they worked hard. “They keep crazy hours. They were here at 6:30 a.m. [Sept. 10] from Toronto, they stayed the night in Goderich and were setting up to shoot again at 5:30 a.m. [on Sept. 11]. So it was pretty intense, they work very hard,” Lee said. “Just adding it up, I think they probably dropped about $15,000 in Huron County, just on accommodation, food and other random things they needed.” Lee said the crew stayed in Goderich for the one night they were here and all of their food was catered by the Blyth Inn.Hornburg said Walton was perfectfor the episode they shot. He said thetrack was great, albeit a bit wet as it had rained that day, but the rural backdrop of Walton looked exactly how he wanted the episode to look. Hornburg, who is a partner in Marble Media, which he created with his business partner in 2001, worked on the production of the popular kids’ program, This is Daniel Cook and now has his sights set on a slightly older demographic. The Adrenaline Project takes a small group of teenagers, aged 14-16 to boot camp to start the show off. The camp is headed up by an imposing drill sergeant named Boomer, who puts the kids through several rigorous routines and tests. Once several have been eliminated, the kids who are left in the competition then participate in some sort of extreme sport event. This episode, which will be one of the later episodes, the kids were surprised to find out that they would be competing against each other in a motocross race. The crew has been working all summer, filming all 13 episodes with the two days in Walton being the beginning of the final week of shooting. Lee said the production was very sophisticated, with each bike being supplied by Yamaha Canada in Toronto and then being equipped with pencil cameras for the in-ride view of the race. Lee’s son Matt was on hand to work with the riders on Sept. 10, to show them the ropes and prepare them for the race on Sept. 11. Lee says he is looking forward to watching the show. He says that his track is no stranger to television crews, but this was the most sophisticated he has ever seen. He was also interested in how they shot the show. “There’s lots of fast cuts and music and special effects with a host,” he said. “It looks totally different from anything I’ve seen.” On Sept. 10, Lee brought in several local riders to help the crew set up to shoot. They ran through the course while the crew decided where to shoot. The riders were James Emmrich of Walton, Matt Shannon of Seaforth and Jackie Henderson of Bluevale. Hornburg said he has developed this show with longevity, saying that all 13 episodes they’ve already shot will air and that he is hoping for multiple seasons. Lee estimates that the near 40-person crew spent at least $15,000 in the area, feeding that money into the economy through accommodation in Goderich, food from the Blyth Inn and other miscellaneous expenses.
