BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, Sept. 9 were Myrtle Badley and Mary Lou Stewart. Ushering were David Onn and Myrtle Badley. Guest organist was Elizabeth Stennet. The guest speaker, Tom Dunbar, welcomed everyone to church with the prayer of approach. The first hymn As a Fire is Meant for Burning was followed by the prayer of confession and the assurance of pardon. The choir sang The Church in the Wildwood. The next hymn was When Morning Gilds the Sky. Mr. Dunbar’s story for the children was The Church in the Wildwood. The story was followed by The Lord’s Prayer. The scripture was from Jeremiah 18: 1-11 and Luke 14: 25-33 and Psalm 138 led by Ollie Craig. The hymn Take Time to be Holy was sung. Mr. Dunbar’s message to the adults was This Might Be Tougher Than I Thought. The potter forms the clay into a vessel or jar. In Jeremiah’s message, God is like the potter molding people and nations and making them beautiful, functional and useful. We should always put God first then everything else will fall into place, Mr. Dunbar said. The minute for missions was read by Jessica Dunbar. Blyth residents can hear what kind of first impression visitors have of their village when a delegation makes a return visit. Four members of the First Impressions Community Exchange from Stirling will be giving their report at the North Huron committee of the whole on Sept. 17 at the Bainton Gallery beginning at 7 p.m. The exchange is sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. It pairs two communities of similar size and assets, then a delegation from each town visits the other without warning. They evaluate the community by touring and through conversations with residents. “It’s a really great program,” said North Huron’s economic development officer Kerri Herrfort. “Considering the number of tourists that come to Blyth we want to make sure we are giving the best first impression.” The public is invited to attend the presentation, said Herrfort, who feels quite confident about what they’ll here. “I’m very excited. I’m so proud of Blyth and I think the community should be too. It’s looking very good. I feel sure that the delegation will have good things to say.” Controlling the heat Rob Kolkman, left, and Paul Kerr took care of the sausage station of the firefighters’ breakfast at last weekend’s Thresher Reunion. The firefighters served between 1,500 and 1,600 people at the fire hall over the weekend.
