Sheila Richards is home from cottage country and catching up with friends about Brussels happenings in the past few weeks. Sheila thought that a welcome party had been organized for her homecoming but soon realized that it was the Huron East crew cleaning up a tree at her place that had gone with the wind. The mighty winds of last week did a job on lots of unhealthy branches in the area. Exercise was readily available to many homeowners to rid their lawns of loose twigs and branches. Fran Bremner had another reason to smile concerning her grandchildren this month. Carlene was using her young talent to portray the younger sister of Tom Connors at the Festival version of Stompin’ Tom. Jerry and Vicki have been very supportive of the arts with their daughter over the past few summers and the natural talent shows through. So that may be one of the reasons Fran has that little smile on her face. Next week’s the fair. The history of the fair and where each of us fitsinto that history makes forinteresting conversations. Be sure toshare your stories with others nextweek. For me the Crystal Palace was apretty impressive building seenthrough the wide eyes of a weecountry girl. The thrill of a little freedom to wander away from parents, to buy grape pop and hang out with friends was a big day for me. Years later fair dances at the Palace were memorable, some more memorable than others. For many of you the scrubbing of the Palace in preparation for the fair will be part of your story of the past. Marching, races, school work prizes, 4-H and food make for very good stories. We are so fortunate to have people willing, every year to make the plans for the fair and see that they are accomplished. So in advance thank you. See you at the fair. Bye now, Betty G.W. Your Ambassador Sara Baker was crowned the new Brussels Fall Fair Ambassador Saturday night, by last year’s Ambassador Alyssa Gowing, following a competition at the Legion. Baker, sponsored by the Majestic Women’s Institute of Brussels, was one of five contestants.
