The Citizen, 2007-09-06, Page 19With the cloud of poor attendance hanging over Blyth Festival’s Young Company last year, staff members took it to the schools and it seems to have paid off. This year, the Young Company consists of just over 15 members, where last year there was only six, and all of the members are keeping pretty tight-lipped about this year’s project. This year’s Wireless is less a play than it is an exploration through technology, good and bad, is the way that Ellerei Lorentz describes it. Lorentz, 16, is one of two local members of the young company, the other being Aislinn Bremner, 15. Both are from Blyth. Bremner, who is in her third year with the Young Company, says she has enjoyed every year and that she looks forward to returning next year. Lorentz is in her second year, and also is planning on returning next year. Last week they were deep into rehearsals for Wireless, which will play at The Garage from Sept. 11 until Sept. 15. Both girls have spent a good deal of timein the theatre and look forward to many more seasons under the lights. Bremner, who has worked as a stage manager in past plays, says that she hopes to be involved in theatre for the rest of her life on a part-time basis. Lorentz feels the same way. However, her allegiances lie with the directing side of the theatre, or music production, she says. As far as the production goes, both girls say things are a little tough going right now and there is a lot more work to be done, but that they’re confident it will come together in the end, as it always does. Bremner said it was the same situation last year, when the Young Company produced What’s Your Nature. She said she enjoyed the outdoor theatre and the story of the play. This year’s exploration started as an idea about an intersection between young people and technology. Blyth Festival’s associate artistic director Gil Garratt penned the script and thought it would suit the Young Company. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2007. PAGE 19.Entertainment Leisure& In the company of youth As the Young Company readies its season production, Wireless, their lips are sealed about details, calling the play an “exploration through technology”. Aislinn Bremner, left, is in her third year with the Young Company and says nothing will stop her from returning for a fourth. Ellerei Lorentz is in her second year and says she has enjoyed it thus far. Both girls get their dramatic fix as students at F.E. Madill Secondary School, where they hope to hone their skills for one more year. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Locals explore technology with Young Co. It’s Show Time!
