Those participating in the evening were: Jean Nethery, Lois vanVliet, Karen Stewart, Linda Street, Lynda McGregor, Bev Walker as well as Jane of course and the hostess. The evening was great fun as the ladies took turns ‘roasting’ Jane. Ms Gardner has recently bought a new home in St. Catharines and the entire community wishes her every good fortune for the future. There are a lot of little ones heading off to school for the first time very soon and our granddaughter Myrah is one of them. She received a letter from her soon-to-be-teacher, saying how excited she was to have her in theclass. That, was awesome! It madeMyrah feel special before she everstepped inside her classroom. Hats off to those teachers who gothe extra mile. You do make adifference. This summer Myrah has beenattending what she calls pretendschool or school school. The program was offered to first time students to interact with otherchildren and learn about what theywill learn, once real school starts. She loved it, and I expect it went along way toward alleviating anyfears she and others who attended, may have once they start real school– real soon. To those in charge, you have madea real difference. Thank you. The ladies of the Walkerburn Club will be car pooling to their first fallmeeting on Sept. 18 at the GoderichLibrary and the Reuben SallowsGallery. Weather permitting a shortmeeting and social time will be hadat the beach. If not they will return toa member’s home. Each member is asked to bring afew cookies for lunch. Good luckladies on another very productive and successful year. Sometime between Aug. 24 and Aug. 27 a St. Michaels Road residence in Huron East was entered and items were stolen. The public is being reminded again to ensure that some simple precautions are taken to minimize risk while away from home. These include locking your home, advising a trusted neighbour of your whereabouts and timing for return, keeping a light on inside the residence with window treatments closed and having newspapers picked up or stopped. While these measures will not prevent something from happening, they may reduce the likelihood of your being victimized. The design of the rest of the house reflects this thoughtfulness, from the lofty ceiling in the great room to the butler’s pantry off the kitchen and the vaulted ceiling in the den. A covered entry leads into an L-shaped double-height foyer, with a roomy walk-in closet to the left and a den to the right, ideally placed for a home office. Opposite the open stairway is a powder room, handy for visitors and family alike. Visible from the foyer through an archway is the great room, with its double-height ceiling. The corner fireplace will radiate a welcome to family and visitors alike. This room is separated from the nook and kitchen only by a row of columns, creating a unified space that will not only simplify entertaining, but will enable family members to pursue their individual interests without feeling isolated. The spacious kitchen features a prep island and an L-shaped counter configuration for efficiency. The window over the sink looks out to a covered patio, accessible from the nook for easy al fresco meals. A walk-in pantry provides extra storage, and a butler’s pantry will hold items not for everyday use, such as special-occasion glasses and china. The laundry room, off the kitchen, includes a coat closet and a storage cupboard, and has access to the boat bay and double garage, with its deep-silled window. The master suite boasts a bay window overlooking the back garden, and includes a walk-in closet. The ensuite features a shower stall as well as a soaker tub with a tiled surround, and includes a linen closet. Upstairs, the second and third bedrooms tucked under the gables each enjoy an ensuite bathroom, an unusual touch of luxury. Both bedrooms also include a walk-in closet and linen cupboard. Exterior finishes include cut stone and vertical siding, with decorative archways over the front entry and den windows. A small oval vent adds interest to the garage’s façade.
