Rough game
Lucknow and Clinton took to the field last weekend in Blyth
with Clinton getting the best of Lucknow in extra time. The
contest was a physical one with the referee warning both
teams regularly against charging. Clinton found the back of
the net not long after overtime began, making short work of
Lucknow in the extra frame. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Bus Safety Tips
• Keep aisles clear -- books or bags are tripping hazards and
can block the way in an emergency.
• Before you reach your stop, get ready to leave by getting your
books and belongings together.
• At your stop, wait for the bus to stop completely before getting
up from your seat. Then, walk to the front door and exit, using
the hand rail.
• Do not cross the centre line of the road until the driver has
signaled that it is safe for you to begin walking.
• Stay away from the bus’s rear wheels at all times.
• Have a safe place to wait for your bus, away from traffic and
the street.
• Stay away from the bus until it comes to a complete stop and
the driver signals you to enter.
• When being dropped off, exit the bus and walk ten giant
steps away from the bus. Keep a safe distance between
you and the bus. Also, remember that the bus driver can
see you best when you are back away from the bus.
• Use the handrail to enter and exit the bus.
• Stay away from the bus until the driver gives his/her signal
that it’s okay to approach.
• Be aware of the street traffic around you. Drivers are required
to follow certain rules of the road concerning school buses,
however, not all do. Protect yourself and watch out!
• When on the bus, find a seat and sit down. Loud talking or
other noise can distract the bus driver and is not allowed.
Never put head, arms or hands out of the window.

Stand safely away from traffic
Wednesday seniors saw 19 out atthe Wingham golf course forcompetition. Playing the red teeson the even-numbered holes
shorted the course by just under
170 yards but the short par threes
seemed to give some problems as
the scores if anything were
elevated.
Roger Lloyd was in top form
with four pars and a birdie on that
tough fifth hole to take top prize
with a gross score of 40. Wayne
Gordon with three pars took second
prize. There was a three-way tie for
third between Clayton Ruppel, Bob
Johnston and Ray Walker with
Clayton Ruppel taking third
honours not because of seniority,
but rather the retrogression
rule.
Closest to the pin awards were
won by Bob Johnston on number
two, Russ Taylor on number four
and Bill Deans on number eight.

Staff and club members extend
their deepest sympathy to memberof the kitchen staff, Brenda Munro,on the very sudden death of herhusband Sheldon.
***
The weatherman with
threatening forecasts of expected
thunderstorms played havoc with
Wednesday’s numbers. Only eight
were on hand. Competition was
keen though with only four strokes
between the top and bottom golfer.
There was a tie for top spot with
John Dailleboust gaining the crown
over Steve Nixon by the
retrogression rule. Low-net
honours went to Jim Sanford. Pin
awards were won by Jim Sanford
on number two and Steve Nixon on
number nine.

There was a good turnout on
Thursday night with 28 on hand
with a few new faces. Terry Powell
continued to be the cream of the
crop as he continued to hold on to
his leader board position with a
one-over-par score of 36. BillRobertson was in second spot witha 39 and Don Edgar was in thirdwith a 41.
Teeswater’s Perry Hauck won the
hidden score award. Grant Currie
was the closest to the pin on
number two and Doug Neil sank
the longest putt on the fifth hole.
***
Congratulations to Ken Saxton,
getting what every golfer dreams of
the illusive hole-in-one. Using a
five wood Ken had his hole-in-one
on the par three, eighth hole. This
was Ken’s first hole-in-one.
Members of the foursome were
Bob Foxton, Murray Foxton and
Byron Adams.

Greenskeeper Bruce Pewtress
was anything but happy when he
discovered last Friday morning that
some thoughtless individuals had
driven a golf cart through some of
the new tee additions leaving the
two deep tire tracks.
