hospital. We wish him a speedy
recovery.
Happy birthday to Connor Brooks

home.
BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday,Aug. 26 were Fred Meier
and Joan Clark. Ushering were
Hope Button and Terry Richmond.
Guest organist was Elizabeth
Stennett.
Guest speaker Tom Dunbar first
welcomed everyone to church. The
first hymn was O for a Thousand
Tongues, which was then followed
by the Prayer of Confession, the
Assurance of Pardon repeated
responsively.
The choir sang an anthem One
More Step, which was then followed
by the next hymn, which was Come
Children Join to Sing.
Mr. Dunbar had a story for the
children which was followed by The
Lord’s Prayer.
The scripture was from Luke 10:
39-56 and Psalm 92 led by Ollie
Craig. The hymn As Pants the Heart
was sung.
Mr. Dunbar’s message to the
adults was A Compassionate Heart.
The lesson is simple, be kind and
compassionate to those in need. Mr.
Dunbar referred to the Good
Samaritan.
God wants people to show
compassion towards others. The
Samaritan could have
shown simple compassion by giving
the injured man a drink of water
and maybe helped bind his wounds,
but he went much farther by
taking him to the inn and asking
the innkeeper to look after him and
he would return to pay him for
looking after the injured man.
The point of this story today is not
just to show compassion for others
but to work outside of comfort
zones.
The Minute for Missions was read
by Jessica Dunbar.

the network, that company will be
responsible for marketing. However,
that said, the county will be setting
up information and training nights
beginning possibly as early as
October in six different spots
throughout the county.
Vodden said he was overwhelmed
with the response he got when he
first put the word out requesting
information from people who
weren’t in a serviceable area for
broadband and wanted to be. Vodden
is still responding to people who
wrote in, letting them know that
their efforts were successful.
Vodden served as a consultant a
few years ago on a similar plan
offered through the federal
government when Huron County
came up empty. However, having
their paperwork in line for that
project gave them a head start in this
project.
“The government attached such a
tight deadline to this, that only
organizations that have been through
the process before have the time to
get their ducks in a row,” Vodden
said.
The county has their work cut out
for them now, but as Vodden said,
they are ready for it. Details will
follow in the coming weeks as the
process continues to develop.
Broad appeal
Huron/Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell was on hand to deliver big news and congratulate Huron
County on its successful application for the expansion of its broadband internet network on
Tuesday. The province handed out $10 million to areas which had significant holes in high
speed coverage and both Huron and Perth’s applications were approved. Of the 30
applications received by the province, only 18 were given the go-ahead. From left: Huron

Points of clarification
There are two points of
clarification regarding the story in
last week’s issue on Maple &
Moose, Blyth’s new Canadiana
store.
While most of the vendors are
from south-western Ontario the
products are from across the
country.
Also, though the hours may be
reduced during the winter months,
the store will be open year round.
We apologize for any confusion
the article may have caused.
