HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2007-08-23, Page 11By Rev. Dave WoodHuron Chapel EvangelicalMissionary ChurchTime flies when you’re havingfun! We recently returned from
holidays “abroad” and looking back
it seems like a whirlwind tour. I
managed to avoid any significant
incidents and kept my face out of the
news.
Little did I know I was in a place
where a possible uproarious election
was taking place as well as being on
an island that was being bombarded
with heavy flooding.
Maybe ignorance is bliss because
if I had known I might have been just
a tad anxious and even worried over
situations that were basically beyond
my control. I like to be in control.
When I am not in the drivers seat and
Zach is at the wheel, I tend to put the
brakes on a lot more than he does
and I cannot figure out how he
manages to drive on his own when I
am not there to tell him what to do. I
think I have issues.
We did a lot of flying this past year
and although I requested the seat
beside the pilot, and was denied, I
think I finally learned just to sit back
and relax even though I was not in
control.
I don’t think I am much different
than most people. (Well maybe?) We
like to be in command of our lives.
Often our independence is not
always for our benefit.
I have noticed over this lifetime
that God is able to direct the universe
without my help. (Don’t think I
haven’t offered to help Him!) It
seems He really doesn’t need my
advice and my part is just to sit back
and let Him drive. I guess they call
this faith. Faith is letting go even
when you don’t understand, even
when you cannot grasp the “why’s”
but yet know that God is God.
Paul writes in Colossians 1:15-17
that “He (Christ) is the image of theinvisible God, the firstborn over allcreation. For by Him all things werecreated, things in heaven and onearth, visible and invisible, whether
thrones or powers, or rulers or
authorities, all things were created
by Him and for Him. He is before all
things, and in Him all things hold
together.”
This means that Jesus has
everything well in hand and by faith
I can trust Him even when I don’thave all the answers, even when Ibecome overwhelmed by theatrocities that are committed in thisworld, I can sit back and relax and
let Him drive.
Why? Because despite what we
might think, God is still in control.
Time does fly when you are
having fun and recently a few people
I know marked the half-century
milestone. I used to think this was
old. I thought when I became 50 itwas time to start looking intonursing homes but I think I want tobe like my neighbour, who justturned 50, and get a scooter and
continue to motor on. What a great
idea, eh? A scooter to bomb around
town, with a psychedelic helmet and
a leather coat!
No matter how times flies we can
learn to relax because when we walk
with Jesus we can know that He is
always in control and even when I
reach that monumental half-century
mark and am driving down the road
on my new scooter, I can relax
because Jesus is my pilot and He is
holding it all together, no matter
what.
