After presenting an annual Student Show, Community Show and two very popular exhibitions by regional artists, the Blyth Festival Art Gallery will cap its highly successful 2007 season with a new exhibition of fascinating oil paintings by Elora’s Phil Irish. It is entitled Scene Changes and opens in the Bainton Gallery at the Blyth Festival on Friday, Aug. 10 with a public opening reception at 7 p.m. This show will hold a special connection with the area. The artist notes that there are sacred sites all around the world, but wants to know what places hold a special meaning for you? Irish had been asking people to draw maps for him. The destination? A place of particular significance to them: perhaps where a decision was taken, or an accident happened, or a place of solace returned to again and again. Irish follows these maps. He then draws, takes photographs, takes time to explore. The map and Irish’s response to the place are fused as one artwork. He has had to find a specific tree, or order a certain meal from a diner, or find a particular artwork in a museum. Once the process is complete, the finished works often spark imagination and wonder in those who look at them. The title Scene Changes is a reference to theatrical events as the show will include a few pieces made specifically in relation to the Blyth Festival. Irish has asked people associated with the Festival to share their stories, to draw their maps, as inspiration for new works. The results are sure to fascinate the viewer. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening and to celebrate the occasion with other art lovers in our community. The show continues until Sept. 1 and is presented in the Bainton Gallery of the Blyth Festival. The gallery is located in the Blyth Memorial Hall, beside the Festival box office, and is open to the public Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. YYoouu aarree CCoorrddiiaallllyy IInnvviitteedd ttoo JJooiinn oouurr FFaammiillyy iinn CCeelleebbrraattiinngg tthhee 2255tthh AAnnnniivveerrssaarryy OOppeenn HHoouussee ooff KKeeiitthh aanndd GGlloorriiaa WWiillbbeeee Saturday, August 11, 2007 1 pm - 4 pm at 42369 Blyth Road R.R.#1, Walton, Ontario Blyth Rd., Auburn 519-526-7759 NOW LICENSED UNDER LIQUOR LICENCE ACT OF ONTARIO Stickers Family Restaurant Monday - 6:30 - 4:00; Tuesday & Wednesday 6:30 - 8:00; Thursday, Friday & Saturday 6:30 - 9:00; Sunday 9:00 - 7:00 Saturday, August 4 Steak & Wings 5 pm - 9 pm Friday Smorg. ~ 5 pm - 8 pm Sunday Smorg. ~ 4 - 7 pm 75th Birthday Party for Betty Hulley Saturday, August 11 Open House 7 to 8 Dance 8-11 Londesborough Hall Donations to Childcan in lieu of gifts 50th Anniversary Bert and Joanne Lyon Please help us celebrate Bert and Joanne Lyon’s 50th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, August 5th, 2007 from 1-4 pm at 39976 Dinsley Terrace, Clinton, ON Please bring your lawn chair. People coughed up some cash to get the mayor wet as the money all went to benefit Brussels minor hockey.
