With renewed funding from the
Community Access Program, Blyth
and Brussels Branches of the Huron
County Library are again offering
free-internet training.
Janine Stamper has been hired as a
CAP youth intern for Blyth Branch
and Laura Mero has been hired as a
CAP youth intern for Brussels
Branch to help people enhance their
computer and internet skills, and
even teach them how to make a
website, if interested.
“I am delighted that the
federal government has decided
to continue to fund this impor-
tant service,” said Beth Ross,
county librarian. “The use of
the internet computers at our
libraries has continued to grow
every year, and people need to
improve their skills to keep up with
the fast-paced changes of the
internet.”
In addition to basic computer and
internet skills, the CAP youth
interns can teach people how to
participate in on-line activities such
as blogs, wikis, photo sharing and
other social networking.
Training sessions are conducted
on a one-on-one basis, with some
special events also taking place. you
can learn how to start your own
blog, build your own website,
participate in on-line live chatting or
anything you might want to learn
about using a computer or searching
the internet.
Interested learners can make an
appointment by calling Blyth
Library at 519-523-4400 or Brussels
Library at 519-887-6448. This
internet training is also available at
all branches of the Huron County
Library.

Brussels firefighters were kept hopping on Sunday morning at the Brussels Homecoming
breakfast. The picture tells the story on how well attended the event was as folks lined up
down the block throughout the morning. Approximately 800 were fed, according to deputy fire

The HMA has announced that
nominations are now open for the
Manufacturing Excellence Awards
to be presented on Nov. 8 at the
South Huron Recreation Centre in
Exeter.
Manufacturing companies
operating in Huron County and
individuals working in the
manufacturing sector are eligible to
be nominated.
The first annual awards held in
Wingham last year saw an
attendance of over 160 people. The
second annual awards will be
presented by host sponsors, the
County of Huron and Heartland
Community Credit Union and are
expected to have an attendance of
approximately 300 people.
HMA Chair, Chris Meier, said
“The purpose for these awards is to
recognize the contribution that
manufacturers make to our
community and our economy, that’s
why we have awards like the
Corporate Citizenship Award”.
Awards will also be presented for,
Innovative Manufacturing,
Youth Integration, Innovative
Product, Junior Manufacturer of the
Year, Chairman’s Award for
Leadership and Manufacturer of the
Year.
In several of the award categories
multiple awards are granted,
recognizing, small, medium and
large companies. Last year Barmy
Tech, of Walton was awarded the
corporate citizenship award for a
company under 20 employees.
Last year’s winner of
Manufacturer of the Year was Volvo
Motor Graders Ltd. of Goderich.
HMA co-ordinator, Monica Walker-
Bolton, said “Volvo’s contribution to
the community, commitment to
process improvement and innovative
new grader design were cited by the
award selection committee in
consideration for this award”.
In addition to recognizing
achievement in manufacturing the
awards raise money for charity. Last
year’s awards raised $1,300 for the
Huron United Way. Youth programs
in Huron County will be the
beneficiary of this year’s awards.
Anyone is eligible to nominate a
company. The HMA will mail

The South Huron County 4-H
sheep club’s fourth meeting was
held at the Lions Park in Blyth on
Monday, July 23. Members met for
pizza then opened the business part
of the meeting with the 4-H pledge.
The minutes from the last meeting
were read and approved. This was
followed by the treasurer’s report.
The roll call was to name a sheep
breed. Dorset, Suffolk, Texel,
Dorper, Oxford, Cheviot, etc. were
some of the answers.
Huron County 4-H program has
many events planned during the next
few weeks. Members discussed ‘Go
for the Gold’ which will be held in
Clinton on July 24 and a roast beef
dinner and silent auction to be held
at the Seaforth Agriplex on Aug. 12.
The Huron County leaders
association is putting on this event to
help raise money for the 4-H
program. Leaders and 4-H members
have tickets available for those who
would like to attend this fundraiser.
The judging competition will be
held in Seaforth on Aug. 14 and the
Bayfield Fair will be Aug. 18. At the
Bayfield Fair members will be
shearing their sheep and having a
show with the North Sheep Club.
The group travelled to Benmiller to
Cherrydale farm for a tour. They
were greeted by hosts Gina
McDonell and Bob Riehl. Gina
showed her sheep herding dogs and
demonstrated various techniques on
herding.
She has several dogs that are
trained to herd sheep.
She has Australian Kelpie dogs.

them being a breed that originated in
South Africa.
