The Citizen, 2007-07-26, Page 17Toronto, here she comes. AlyssaGowing, ambassador of Brussels, isreadying herself for the provincial
ambassador competitions at the
Canadian National Exhibition in
Toronto.
Gowing, 18, fresh off her
appearance at the Miss Midwest
competition in Walkerton, says she
has loved being the ambassador and
that she’s really looking forward to
the weekend in Toronto.
“I thought it might be a great
opportunity to go down to the CNE,
which I never have before and meet
some new people,” she said.
“It’s going to be a busy weekend.
There is so much to do and so much
to see.”
Gowing first took the crown last
fall, and she says one of the best
things about being the ambassador is
introducing herself as the
representative of Brussels.
Over 150 competitors will be
attending the contest at the CNE,
with Gowing being one of them.
Contestants will be tested on their
knowledge of the CNE and
agriculture, poise, personality,
interview and their overall
impression.
The winner will represent the
CNE the next year.
Gowing says she likes her
chances, after being a semi-finalist
in the Walkerton competition.
Overall, she says the competitions
have helped her to speak better
and to meet lots of interesting
people.
The CNE pageant is celebrating its
35th year this year and on Aug. 17-19, Gowing will add her name to thelist of over 3,500 contestants whohave taken part in the competitionsover that time. The winner will be crowned Aug.20 in Toronto.Gowing will also be featured inthe Brussels Homecoming parade onJuly 28.THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2007. on Sept. 2.

will be celebrated on Sunday, July
29 at 11:15 a.m. at the Brussels
Conservation Park as part of
Homecoming celebrations. Bring
your lawn chairs as well as a picnic
lunch.
Greeting those attending church
were Neil and Marie McGavin.
During the service, Sandra had the
children hand out paper and pencil
for the members to write down the
hymns they would like to sing
during services in the fall.
Patty Banks was the scripture
reader. Rev. Sandra’s reflection was
entitled Relationships.
A short board meeting was held
following the service to discuss
some necessary work to be done at
the manse.
Coffee and muffins were also
enjoyed after church.
Miss Brussels
