By Zach Drost Press Reporter The third meeting of the South Huron Sheep 4-H Club was held at Don and Florence Pullen’s farm on June 25 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting began with a friendly game of soccer. Then members judged a group of four ewe lambs that Don Pullen had set out for us. Everyone had the opportunity to place this class based on their structure, stance, muscling, width of rump and length of body and loin. Members gave reasoning for placing to leaders Florence Pullen or Deb Falconer, then moved on to judge a class of cut flowers. They placed the flowers by size, number of stems (this was a two-stem class), no sign of disease, no petals in water and that the groups of flowers were the same size. The meeting was officially opened with the 4-H pledge, led by president Brandon Coleman. Club secretary, Amber Brodie read the minutes of the last meeting. The leader gave the treasurer’s report. Members were given project books of former members to look at for ideas and tips on how a project book should look. They answered the roll call which was to name one special instrument the shepherd uses during lambing season. Then they discussed the next meeting, which will be held on July 23 at Blyth park. This will be for a pizza supper, then the members will go to a sheep farm in Benmiller. Everyone had a snack of juice and cupcakes and the meeting was closed. 4-H Sheep Club meets at Pullens’ • Hard Red Winter Wheat • Soft Red Winter Wheat • Soft White Winter Wheat • Hard Red Spring Wheat Call us for preharvest application of Roundup or TouchDown.
