U-13 Lightning victorious WW INGHAMINGHAM Thursday, July 19th Friday, July 20th & Saturday, July 21st ~ Great Shopping! ~ Last week the Wingham golf course was a beehive of activity with 50 young golfers on hand for the junior golf clinic. Instructors Dave Meriam, Ed Daer, Mark Hackett and Trevor Hopf certainly had their hands full controlling this enthusiastic group of boys and girls – our future members. They certainly livened up the clubhouse and kept Laurie and her kitchen crew busy feeding this sudden surge of hungry youngsters. Nice to see a good number of girls on hand for the clinic. Parents beware: these young graduates of the golf clinic will surprise you with their skill at such a young age. *** With the weather channel forecasting all-day rain and thunderstorms only 10 were out for Wednesday’s seniors’ and two of the 10 did not finish due to a sudden sprinkle and threatening skies. Bob Gavreluk had a strong finish. Getting pars on the last two holes was good enough to give him a tie with Wayne Gordon for top spot. Bob Johnston captured third spot. *** Weather also played havoc with Wednesday’s men’s night with only 13 out for golf action. Dan Campbell with five pars, a birdie on number six and bogies on all the tough par threes came in with a 37 for best score of the night. Tied for second with one stroke more were Steve Nixon and Rob Gallaher with 38s. There was only one skin and that went to Kent McPherson with a two on the eight hole. The Hopfs had a battle for family bragging rights but dad Eric finished strong with pars on last two holes to tie son Trevor – both with 39s. There being no winner this week means a real battle for bragging rights next week! Pins were won by Corey McKee on number two, Steve Nixon, number four and Kent McPherson on number eight. *** Coming in the future – more tee- offs. Did you notice the huge piles of topsoil? Plans call for a forward tee on the first and second holes with the new tee on number nine making for a longer hole which will test the long-ball hitters. *** Thursday night golf had three dozen on hand. For the third week in a row Terry Powell retained his position on the leader board with a 37. Right on his heels was Trevor Hopf with a 38. Bill Robinson was in third with a 40. Closest to the pin on number three from the red tees was Russ Danbrook. Bill Quipp had the hot putter with the longest putt on number six. Hidden score winners were a Teeswater pair, Perry Hauck and Dave Montgomery. Short Putts – By Bill Johnston U-10s play Listowel Brussels U-8s down Wallace
