The Citizen, 2007-07-12, Page 7Those attending Duff’s United
Church, Walton were greeted by
Marjory Fraser.
Coffee and muffins will be served
after church on July 22, the last
service for July.
The new minister, Sandra Yule,
delivered a sermon entitled
Community. The scripture reader
was Marie McGavin.
The offering was collected by Neil
McGavin and Howard Hack-
well.
The ladies of the United Church
Women served a Blyth supper at the
church Saturday evening. There
were over 50 hungry diners sitting
down to the roast beef dinner.
Helpers included Judy Lee,
Marilyn McDonald, Cathy McClure,
Rev. Yule, Phyllis Mitchell and Jo-
Ann McDonald.

Vacation
Vacation Bible School at Zion Mennonite Fellowship provided a little fun for the kids with some
knowledge on the side. There was storytelling, colouring and drama, which is what these
ladies undertook. Carolyn Roth, left, led the girls in the exercise, while Sarah Zacharias,
centre, and Tanya Roth, left, played their parts to perfection. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
M. Fraser greets
Work, work, work. The mennonite
construction crew that’s working at
Dauphin’s Feed Mill are busy bees.
The addition is coming along at
quite a pace and it may be ready by
month’s end. We look forward to
having the store opening to serve our
wee community of Walton.
Travelling to St. Jacob’s
Playhouse in Waterloo were Marilyn
McDonald, Anne Ryan, Barb Tervit
and Fran Newman. They enjoyed the
production of Legends and report it
was fantastic.
Off on a weekend vacation to
Sudbury were Sherry, Emma and
Owen Taylor. They were off to visit
Susan McLachan, Sherry’s sister.
They went to Science Rock and
stopped at a cottage at French River
on the way home. Swimming,
tubing and water fun capped off the
adventure.
It was the Elliott reunion in
Kitchener at the home of Bob and
Sharon Elliott. Helen, Graeme and
Michael Craig were there, along
with Shannon and Dave Soontiens,
Mary Elliott, Vancouver, and Scott
and Emily La Rue of Haliburton
along with many La Rue children
and family and Elliott children and
family totalling nearly 40 in
attendance.
Food, games, swimming, visiting
were all part of Saturday’s get
together. Some of the men staying
over went golfing on Sunday
morning as well.
I attended the 51st reunion of the
Beuermann clan of Brodhagen. The
clan has met at the Brodhagen Hall
for nearly 40 years and this year
nearly 60 were in attendance. I was
in charge of the family games and
every child received a prize.
Potluck lunch was delicious and
the huge family picture taken on the
steps of the hall was taken as usual.
It’s always fun to see the extended
relatives.
The McDonalds had a family get-
together at Jason and LeeAnn
Konarskis on the weekend. Brother-
in-law Charlie Calhoun and wife
Karin from Roaring Gap, North
Carolina, were here for a week to
visit with the family, Leona
McDonald, Peg Rogerson, Rick, Jo-
Ann and Scott, LeeAnn and Jason.
Everyone had a great afternoon
visiting and a barbecue supper.
July progresses on. Celebrating
birthdays this past week are Dianne
Blake, Brad Knight, Sean and Emily
Mitchell, Allan Carter, Gerald
Watson, Mitchell Ryan, Neil
Mitchell, Brenda Finlayson, Ralph
Bos, Lorne Glanville, Jasmin Roth,
Steve Fritz, Lorna Fraser and
Melanie Kirkby.
The diamonds in Walton have
been quiet this past week as the
Brewers, Wonders and Indians all
played away.
The Brewers’ last outing was in
Belmore where they suffered a 7-5
loss. Scott Leonhardt pitched for
Walton.
The Brewers play next Tuesday at
home against Brussels Tigers July 17
at 8 p.m.
The Walton Wonders were home
to Kittens and Cougars two weeks
ago and came away with the 22-18
win. A 10 run, sixth inning earned
the go-ahead runs. Hot with the bats
were Lisa DeJong and LeeAnn
Konarski giving six for six. Jolene
McNichol going five for six and Jo-
Ann McDonald going five for five
for the night.
The Wonders travelled to Belgrave
to face the Classics last week. A
terrible first inning for Walton,
giving up seven runs, made for a
tough climb back to the final score
of 17-9 for the Classics.
Hitting well were Susan
Alexander, four for four; Lisa
DeJong, three for four; Colleen
Smith, three for four; Sandra Josling,
three for three and Sherry Taylor two
for three with a triple.
