Happy birthday to Ann Nesbitt and
Janis Vodden who celebrate their
birthdays on July 16. Also happy
anniversary to Mike and Christa
Haggitt who celebrate July 16.
Congratulations to Scott and
Colleen “Sal” Bromley on the arrival
of their baby boy.
Sympathy goes to Lois and Con
vanVliet on the sudden death of
Lois’s sister. Sympathy is also
extended to the family of Kent
Howatt on his sudden death.
Sorry to hear that Elva Brown is a
patient at Westminster campus of
Victoria Hospital in London. We
wish her a speedy recovery.
Blyth has begun to buzz with
activity with the coming of the
theatre season. Eyes To Heaven, and
Queen Millie seem to be very well
received by the audiences who have
seen them so far.
Also causing a buzz in Blyth is the
reconstruction of Dinsley Street East.
Those of us who live there are finding
it challenging to get in and out of
driveways. As well there are things
you don’t think of until you go to do
them – like where to set the garbage
and/or recycling box out when there
is a backhoe digging a hole where it
normally would go. All these minor
problems can be solved however and
it will be wonderful to have the street
done.

Elizabeth Stennet.
The children’s story was a slightly
different version of the Tortoise and
the Hare. Guest speaker Tom Dunbar
told the children that there were
actually four races: the first was won
by the tortoise because slow and
steady wins the race.
The second time the hare learned
from his mistake. The third race they
came to a river and the hare couldn’t
get across but the tortoise kept the
slow and steady pace. The fourth race
the tortoise and the hare had
become friends and the hare used
his speed and with the tortoise’s
help to get across the river he won
again.
The singing of The Lord’s Prayer
was followed by the reading of the
scripture from Galatians 6: 1-16.
Ollie Craig led the 100th
Psalm responsively. The hymn
All Beautiful March of Days was
sung.
Mr. Dunbar’s message to the adults
was Many Hands. Mr. Dunbar spoke
on sharing the burden, “All are equal
in the eyes of the Lord”, “Love your
neighbour as yourself”.
He spoke of the teamwork
approach used in sport as opposed to
the guerrilla type of advertising in
sales.
He gave the example of
how Canada geese fly in a V
formation to give the head goose 70
per cent more thrust. When the
head goose gets tired it rotates back.
They honk to encourage one
another. When a goose gets
injured, two fall out to look after it as
a team.

A costly error
In the high stakes world of water-balloon tossing, there is
very little room for error, as Isaac Nicholson, right, found
out. Zoe Bieman looks on as the game comes to an end,
but a good time was had by all. The week-long workshops
at Blyth Memorial Hall took a day off from drama and let the
kids enjoy some water on a sunny warm day last week.
