THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JULY 5, 2007.East Wawanosh Grade 8 studentsparticipated in the North Huron two-pitch tournament held on June 19 atTurnberry Central Public School. The following students participated: Matt Cottrill, Brittany Haines, Matt Hallahan, Melissa Leishman, Andrew Lessard, Kelsey Smith, Tyler Stevenson, Cody Stute, Loretta Thompson, Jimi Van De Walle and Brittany Weber. The following students represented East Wawanosh Public School at the Avon Maitland District track and field meet held at Goderich District Collegiate Institute on Wednesday, June 20: Jenny Anderson, Brittany Appleby, Sarah Cook, Arden Coultes, Laura Higgins, Caroline McDowell, Heidi Raynard, Dallas Ruff-Robertson, Megan Stute and Carly Whitfield. Carly Whitfield finished in the third 100m, Arden Coultes was third in the 200m and Caroline McDowell took second in the 1500 m and third in the 800 m. The East Wawanosh Public School junior mixed soccer teams participated in the North Huron soccer tournament on Monday, June 25 at the Howick Central Public School. The teams consisted of Tristin Cook, Rebecca Guy, Caroline McDowell, Sarah Cook, Heidi Raynard, Laura Higgins, Sydney Jarvis, Andrea Shiell, Drew McKee, Jarod Logan, Arden Coultes, Brent Montgomery, Spencer Stevenson, Jesse Van Camp, Braydon Whitfield, Tommy Hewitt, Evan Wesselink, Ben Pletch, Ryan Stute and Austin Chaffe. Ms Elder was coach.Austin Chaffe and Ben Pletchorganized intramural soccer for thestudents in Grades 1-4. The winning team was Liverpool with players Kyle Hallahan, Chastity Irvine- Caesar, Wes Klages and Cole McKee. Wednesday, June 27 was the third term awards assembly. Honour roll, citizenship and most improved student awards for each classroom were presented. On the honour roll were: Grade 1/2, Katherine Coultes, Dianne Klages, Sydney Wightman; Grade 2/3 Shelby Armstrong, Nicole Hardy; Grade 3/4, Wesley Klages, Amelia Pletch, Emily Stennett; Grade 4/5, Emily Meier, Megan Stute, Stacey Hallahan, Jessica Procter, Braydon Whitfield; Grade 5/6, Tommy Hewitt, Kaitlyn Michie, Andrea Shiell, Kathleen Stennett, Austin Chaffe, Laura Higgins, Caroline McDowell; Grade 7/8, Carly Whitfield, Brittany Haines, Matthew Hallahan, Melissa Leishman, Tyler Stevenson, Loretta Thompson, Jordan VanCamp. Citizen awards went to Brock Weber, Leslie Irvine, Cassandra Carter, Jarod Logan, Laura Higgins and Jillian Montgomery. Most improved students were Keely-Dawn Bruce, Sydney Michie, Cole McKee, Nick Irwin, Heidi Raynard and Stephanie Robinson. Volunteers were recognized that day as well. They are: Linda Hess, Lila Procter, Doreen Thompson, Jane Meier, Stephanie Guy, Linda McKee, Nancy Folkard, CheridaMcCullagh, Wendy LeRoux,Christine Gulutzen, MarilynBrydges, Danielle Thompson, Tonia Fear, Kevin Scott, Nancy Daer, Karen Hallahan, Joanne Robinson, Connie Shiell, Sarah Campbell, Julie Van Camp, Donna Raynard, Crystal Devlin, Gayle Irvine, Marilyn Freiburger and Karen Cook. The following students competed in the Gauss Math Contest for Grade7: Jenny Anderson, Bonnie Netheryand Carly Whitfield. Whitfieldreceived the highest score at EWPS with 104 points and received an Outstanding Achievement Certificate. The following students competed for Grade 8: Matt Hallahan, Tyler Stevenson, Cody Stute, Loretta Thompson and Jordan Van Camp. Stevenson received the highest scoreand ranked in the top 25 per cent ofthe contestants in the Gauss MathContest with a score of 114 points for an Outstanding Achievement Certificate. F.E. Madill Secondary School will be welcoming incoming Grade 9 students on Tuesday, Aug. 28 and Wednesday, Aug. 29 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Appreciation Eric Coates, left, was presented with a special award by Stephen Thompson, president of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture, in recognition of the theatre’s contribution to rural life, at the opening night of the 33rd season on Thursday.
