Absorbing knowledge East Wawanosh Public School made math fun for a day in hopes that the students might absorb a bit more of the lesson. An outdoor math day was held on June 28 featuring several stations where the students could learn math in an interactive and fun setting through outdoor activities. Jackson Goodall, right, was part of a team competing against another to transfer the most water from one end of the field to the other. The lesson was the measurement of water in litres, which was Jessica Procter’s job. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Continued from page 13 food for everyone. These farmers feel that the world’s original seeds and livestock strains are being lost as scientists modify and recreate them. Pure, original strains/seeds are their aim. Of particular interest to Dave and Darlene, owner operators of McCully Hill Farm near St. Marys, was the symposium’s desire to convince buyers to purchase locally- produced food. As producers of seasonal produce they support the recent ads seen on television about buying foods from Ontario and supermarkets purchasing from local farms. Organizers of the symposium feel a country such as Canada, should only offer food stuffs produced in Canada, i.e., no imports. Handled properly, they feel each country could produce enough of that country’s ethnic foods for its citizens. The couple showed slides of both the symposium and their week spent in France where they visited with a niece of Darlene’s who is on a study exchange there. Police are looking into the situation, but currently have no leads. (Shawn Loughlin photo) Sometime between the evening of June 23 and the morning of June 24, East Wawanosh Public School was subjected to an unscheduled paint job that will end up costing the school around $250. “This happened sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning. I was here on Saturday and everything was fine and one of the teachers came in on Sunday around 11 a.m. and noticed our damage,” principal Frank Stretton said. “Police were contacted. We don’t have any leads right now on who might have done it.” With the school year just coming to a close, Stretton says it has been tough getting the graffiti taken care of. He estimates that sometime over the summer it will be removed. “Right now we have a lot of people on holidays, so I’m waiting for people to come back.” TT hh ee CC ii tt ii zz ee nn 55 11 99 --55 22 33 --44 77 99 22 55 11 99 --88 88 77 --99 11 11 44 Get Your Message AROUND THE WORLD IMMEDIATELY If you have important papers that need to go somewhere FAST ... use THE CITIZEN’S FAX MACHINE!
