Lightning plays Clinton IIBlyth Lightning playedClinton II at the SparlingField on Thursday, June 28. The coach and severalmembers of the Blyth team
were absent for this match,
due to prior commitments.
With only two subs, those
players in attendance received
lots of time out on the field.
Clinton was first to score
after getting a breakaway and
having a clear shot on the left
corner of the net.
Blyth wasn’t long to get on
the scoreboard as Marijke
Oudshoorn worked the ball
towards the opponent’s net
and Clinton’s goalieattempted to stop the ball, butinstead it bounced off thegoalie and into the net. Before the halftime whistle
blew, once again Clinton took
the lead with a nice goal into
the top of the net. Blyth’s
keeper Josh Raynard tried to
stop the ball, but it just
skimmed over the top of his
outstretched fingers.
Clinton was successful, in
getting one ball into the net in
the second half. Micah
Nonkes helped out as goalie
for Blyth to finish off the
game. Blyth players just didn't
have the drive and speed totake possession of the ball, allowing Clinton to gaincontrol of the match. Blythlost 3-1. The team was glad to haveColin Bokhout, AlexRaynard, Matt Steele and afew other teenagers helpcoach the game.

The Brussels Bantams
played home to Sebringville
on June 11.
Brendon Stretton was the
starting pitcher for Brussels.
Stretton sat the first two
batters on strike-outs and got
some help from Cody Subject
who caught a long fly to
centre.
Brussels had a good
defensive first inning.
At bat in the first Taylor
Prior reached first on a walk
then was put out trying to
steal. Justin Pipe was out
from short and Stretton was
left standing at the plate.
The second inning was
plagued with errors.
Sebringville scored seven
runs on five errors, four hits,
two walks and one strikeout.
Brianne Wheeler and Evan
Ducharme went down
swinging and Subject was out
when he tried to steal second.
Sebringville scored another
run in the third on four walks,
one hit and one strikeout.
Ryan Smith started the
third with a strikeout. Andrew
Hess wanted the walk. Robert
Cronin also struck out.
Andrew Lindsay hit a single.
Katie Richmond took a walk
to load the bases. All the
hopes of scoring were
dashed, however, when a
long fly to left by Brad
Quesenberry was caught.
Wheeler took over pitching
duties allowing two runs on
one single and a homerun.
Brussels finally got on the
scoreboard in the fourth.
Prior walked and stole
second. A long fly to right by
Stretton scored Prior.
Wheeler allowed no runs in
the fifth with two strike outs
and one walk.
Again Brussels couldn’t get
a hit from the Sebringville
squad. Subject, Ducharme
and Smith all grounded out to
the infield.
In the final inning
Sebringville scored an
additional five runs to take a
commanding lead.
Brussels never gave up
though. Hess led with a walk
and advanced to second.
Cronin flyed out to left to
move Hess to third. Lindsay
bunted, scored Hess and
would eventually get a
homerun on overthrows.
The final score was
Sebringville 15, Brussels 3.
On June 25 the Bantams
were on the road to play
Seaforth.
Brussels scored three in the
top of the first on singles by
Stretton, Quesenberry and
Ducharme and a triple by
Wheeler.
Quesenberry started on the
mound for Brussels allowing
three runs on three singles,
four walks and a strikeout.
Brussels added one to their
score as Hess waited a walk
and scored on a triple by
Lindsay.
Seaforth took the lead
scoring two with two
doubles, two walks and three
strikeouts.
In the third Brussels scored
two with a lead-off triple by
Stretton, a single by Wheeler
and a sacrifice bunt by
Ducharme.
Wheeler took over pitching
duties closing down scoring
opportunities for the Seaforth
squad.
Brussels continued its
offensive attack adding eight
more runs in the final innings.
The final score was
Brussels 14, Seaforth 5.
