Twenty-four teenagers, having
completed 10 years of primary
education, were congratulated
Friday evening, June 22 and
presented with diplomas at Hullett
Central Public School. It was a
pleasant evening with just enough
breeze to quickly carry the balloons
set off by the young folk up and
away.
Graduates, parents, teachers and
community folk enjoyed dinner at
the Londesborough Community
Hall. Jim Sheppard brought
greetings from the Avon Maitland
District School Board that evening.
Jennifer Fleming of the Hullett
student advisory council offered the
toast to the graduates.
The awards ceremony was held
back in the school gymnasium
where more family members and
community folk had gathered to
support the grads. Principal Gladys
Rock and their teacher, John Coups,
presented the graduates who entered
the auditorium through a white arch.
Dressed for their special evening it
must have been difficult for families
to recognize these grads as the
children they brought to
kindergarten.
It was a proud and emotional
evening for families. There were
plenty of occasions for shutterbugs
to record their bit of history.
Award winners were: science, by
the Shillinglaw family, Heather
Gibson; art, by Radford’s Farm
Equipment, Emma Dale; history, by

As each grad came forward to
receive his/her diploma, Mr. Coups
read a memory that stands out in the
mind of that particular grad of his
time at Hullett. The auditorium was
decorated for the event with large
autographed mortarboards. A
display of photos of their years at
Hullett overflowed from a bulletin
board.
A slide presentation, an annual
feature of graduation at Hullett, of
the young folk who were graduating
was enjoyed by pupils and families
alike. Included in this year’s
presentation were shots of the grad
trip which, incidentally, featured
prominently in the memories offered
by the pupils.
As always, this evening is a
bittersweet one for the graduates.
They look forward to heading off to
high school, yet know they may
never enjoy the companionship of
some of these classmates again.
When the adults left the auditorium,
the grads finished their special
evening with a dance.
Valedictorian, Heather Gibson,

In the event you are still pondering
the idea of having a yard sale on July
14 you may be encouraged to know
that four homes have signed the list
and some folks are still sitting on the
fence about the idea. This is a
holiday weekend and you may have
a few extra hours to clean out that
garage or basement or cupboards
and join in.
There will be no Sunday services
at the Londesborough UnitedChurch for four Sundays. Serviceswill resume again on July 29. Youare encouraged to visit other areachurches during the month.A proud grandmother stopped byto tell me that Nathaniel Allan Peelgraduated from Fanshawe College inLondon on June 15 with a diplomaas an electrical engineeringtechnician.
Nathaniel is the son of Allan and
Carol Peel and grandson to Bob and
Mary Peel.
Nathaniel is seeking employment
in this area and for the summer is
working for the Municipality of
Central Huron.
It is that time of year when our
young folk are being congratulated
for their studies. Be sure to contact
me so others can learn of your
family’s grads.

Anthony Peters shows top form as he takes his swing. He
and others hit the course on the beautiful Sunday to take
part in the first annual Ainsleigh Bontaine Memorial golf
tournament. The day also included a silent and live auction
and dinner. Proceeds go to the Children’s Health
Foundation. The final tally was not available at press time
but organizers were pleased with the support. (Vicky Bremner

The ladies of the Cheerio Club
were pleased to have a guest, Alice
McFarlane, enjoy dinner with them
at the Betty Cardno Centre in
Clinton on Wednesday, June 20.
Following the meal, all present
that afternoons were entertained by
Marie Black of Clinton. A former
known by many of the diners, Marie
enjoys storytelling. Her presentation
was much appreciated by all those at
the centre.
Dorothy Johnston recited the
serenity prayer to open the short
business of the Cheerio Club. This
may very well be the last meeting
for the club. A variety of factors led
to the decision to close out the
club’s bank account and donate the
monies to the Betty Cardno Centre.
The ladies hope to continue to
meet once a month for a meal and
social time only. Their next
gathering will be on July 18.
The June gift of the month, given
by Kay Hesselwood, was won by
Ann Potter. The rest of their
afternoon was spent playing cards.
