At the June 6 meeting Ken Oke, councillor for South Huron spoke to a letter received regarding the “failure of the Ontario Tourism Designated Sign Program” on county roads. “These were done by a private company. They are no longer maintained by the company and when people first come in to Huron this is what they see. I think we should take some action,” said Oke. Saying the planning department had done a good job promoting the county as a tourist destination, Oke felt it was time to adopt a program for signage in the county. “I believe we should be getting into this, promoting tourism with signage.” Oke suggested once the branding for Huron was complete to look at signs with the county brand, then a tourism sign below. “And get rid of these other signs. They are a disgrace to this county.” The matter was referred to the planning committee, with Oke’s addendum challenging them to take immediate action. Councillor calls signs a disgrace Arms inside the vehicle The other end of the plane ride must have been just as much fun as being in the plane if Jolanda Smith’s reaction is any indication. Being carted around by Morgan Deitner, the two pulled a small plane around the field at Grey Central Public School’s Fun Fair last weekend.
