Morris-Turnberry will donate up
to $6,500 to help repair the furnace
at Belgrave Community Centre.
A report from the Belgrave
Community Centre Board, received
at the June 5 meeting of council,
explained the heating/cooling unit at
the community centre is operating at
half capacity. With the unit now 15
years old, it was recommended not
to spend $3,500 on repairs with no
guarantee the problem wouldn’t
return.
Both alternatives, to replace the
existing system with a new split
system heat pump and air handler or
replace the heat pump with a natural
gas furnace, would cost about
$12,000 plus GST. One supplier
suggested the natural gas would pay
for itself in the first year.
Council agreed to provide $6,500
as its share of the project.
The community centre also
reported that problems with the
septic system have been repaired at
a cost of $2,388.84, plus a number
of in-kind hours from the Twp. of
North Huron.
Lighting also remains a problem
with the old spool-wiring system
needing to be replaced. Quotes for
replacing the system with a 12-light
or 21-light, 400-watt metal halide
system ranged from $10,805 to
$18,903. Currently, however, there
is no money available to do this
work.
Council asked the community
centre board to prepare and submit a
fundraising plan to project the
funding to assist with capital
projects and to prepare a five-year
plan to submit to both Morris-
Turnberry and North Huron to help
them prepare their budgets.
The annual Sunday school
anniversary and chicken barbecue
was held at Knox United Church,
Belgrave, on Father’s Day, Sunday,
June 17.
Sandra Dorsch and her daughter
Melinda welcomed all the family
and friends who filled the church for
the service. Roger Hopper, Sunday
school superintendent, welcomed
everyone and made several
announcements. Elizabeth Procter at
the organ and Lila Procter playing
guitar, accompanied the hymns.
Laura Higgins, led in the call to
worship and announced the first
hymn. Lindsay Shiell led in the
opening prayer.
The junior choir led by Lila
Procter and accompanied by
Elizabeth Stennett, sang three
numbers: I am a C/The Fruit Song,
Someone’s Treading on my Tail and
Arky, Arky.
Heidi Raynard led in the prayer of
confession and announced the hymn,
We Are Marching.
Numerous children gathered at the
front of the church for the children’s
story which was told by Adel Dodds.
She gave every child a gardening
glove on which was printed the five
things to pray for every day. The
children kept their gloves as a
remembrance.
The scripture lesson was read by
Kathleen Stennett. Jessica Procter
read a story, When God Created
Fathers.
The presentation by the junior
Sunday school was done with each
child holding up a letter to spell out
Father’s Day. A reading when with
each letter.
The senior classes used various
symbols e.g. A circle, square,
,triangle, star and a blob, to tell the
story of how one person can be
excluded because of their shape or
size. In the end they all came
together as one.
Trevor Raynard announced the
offering and it was dedicated by
prayer. Taking up the offering were
Chris Shiell, Gabriel Carter, Ben
Pletch and Curtis Raynard.
Autumn Wightman gave the
prayers of the people.
Mr. Hopper closed the service
with prayer and thanked all the
students, Sunday school teachers
and assistants for their help. He also
thanked Cam Procter for cooking the
chicken again this year.
The junior choir led in the singing
of grace, Johnny Appleseed.
Following the service everyone
gathered at the front flowerbed
where the choir had placed a stone in
memory of Lorne Campbell.
It was dedicated by Rev. John
Roberts.
Everyone then enjoyed the
chicken barbecue and the time to
visit with family and friends on the
church lawn and in the basement of
the church.
Next Sunday services will be held
in the Knox Presbyterian Church at
9:30 a.m.
Thursday, June 21 will be the third

of of the Huron-Perth Presbyterial
was an invited guest for the
afternoon celebrations. At this time
she presented Mrs. Barbara
Anderson, a long-time member of

God Be With You, was sung and

A natural setting
With perhaps one of the hottest days of the year as a backdrop, East Wawanosh Public
School’s Grade 3/4 class was treated to a nature walk by the Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority’s Esther Buck last week. The students were to collect insects they found interesting
and eventually partnered up to build a nest once they were under the shade of the forest.
