At the Walton diamond on
Tuesday evening the Walton
Brewers hosted the Zurich Rangers.
It was a great game with Walton
defeating Zurich in the final innings
of the game.
On the mound for Walton was
Scott McDonald for six innings
while Larry Lowes pitched the
seventh inning. Jamie Pearn hit the
only home run of the game for
Walton.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Zurich was ahead 7-4. The inning
began with Blaine Marks hitting a
stand-up double followed by Darryl
Houston hitting another double to
score Marks. The next batter walked.
There was a forced out then another
walk and a forced out again with two
out and the bases loaded. Ron
Strome hit a perfect single to score
two and give Walton the 8-7 victory.
The Brewers then visited
Wroxeter. Leonhardt pitched the
entire game and gave up only one
earned hit. Walton played great
defence to shut down the Wroxeter
team.
Walton’s offence put together a
trio of hits to score the only run of
the game to earn the 1-0 win over
Wroxeter.
The third game of the week saw
the Brewers travel to Zurich. It was a
high scoring game with the final
score 11-8 for Zurich.
McDonald was on the mound for
the Brewers.
The ladies slo-pitch team, the
Walton Wonders played against the
Twisted Sisters Thursday night. The
Wonders suffered their third loss in a
row. Hot batters for the night were
Jolene McNichol, LeeAnn Konarski
and Lisa DeJong who went three for
four and scored three times.
Congratulations to Laurie
McClure and Dan Lauzon who were
married in Elmira on Saturday.
Proud parents are Laverne and Nita
McClure.
There were family and neighbours
from Walton in attendance including
Fried and Heidi, Bill and Sharon,
Ed, Clyde and Cathy, Rae, Stan and

McCallum. Special friends from
Calgary, who flew in Friday and
went back Monday were David and
Shannon with Travis, as well as
Graham and Laurie, close friends of
Ron and Betty.
There were plenty of family and
friends from the area for the
barbecue and a good time.
Crop advisor Ken reports that the
corn is doing well and is ahead in
growth, but rain is needed. Don’t forget crop insuranceacreage reports are due June 30.The Craig reunion was held at theWalton Hall on Saturday. Theygathered after lunch and had a goodvisit. This was followed by potluckfor supper.Congratulations to PatriciaMcClure who graduated from
Conestoga College. Donna McClure

witness her graduation from the

with Honours. They had a

Rae McClure is home from
Alberta for two weeks to attend
niece Kerry McClure’s wedding and
to catch up with the rest of the
family. The newly-retired “man of
full-time leisure” will check in with
the many relatives around Walton.
The Walton Hall looks better withthe grass cut and the flowerbedsweeded and trimmed up. Scott, Jo-Ann McDonald and Judy Lee spentseveral hours tidying up around thehall. The work at the Dauphin FeedMill has begun with construction ofthe addition out front. We lookforward to watching the progress.
Another warning to keep things
under lock and get – or get a noisy
dog – as a four-wheeler was stolen
from a Blyth Road residence last
week.
Harder to protect is your mailbox
as last Tuesday evening many boxes
on Walton Road were damaged by
vandals. It was 2:30 a.m. when some
people were awakened by the noise
of the box being beaten.
Some people obviously require
little sleep to take time in the night to
be out doing damage.
Fat chance
Sumo wrestling - fat not included, was offered for two
tickets a match at Grey Central Public School’s Fun Fair
last weekend. Students donned the fat suits and did battle.
Patti Blake was on hand to referee and pick up the fighters
once they hit the ground, because once they hit the ground,
they weren’t getting back up. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
On Father’s Day and Family
Sunday members and friends of
Duff’s United Church, Walton were
greeted by Kathleen and Helen
Williamson. A musical introit by
Phyllis and Shawn Mitchell greeted
those attending and a solo playful
Rondo was performed by Shawn
during the service.
The scripture readings were by
Patty Banks.
Leading the service was guest
speaker Gloria Wilbee. Her message
was Getting Your Ducks in a Row.
The offering was collected by
Lavern Godkin and Monique Baan.
The special guest in the
congregation was the new minister
Sandra Yule. She and a friend drove
from Ottawa to see the church, and
manse and meet the congregation.
The board is asking for family
profiles in an effort to help the
minister get to know everyone. A
short summary of your family, how
many, where you/they live and a
recent photo will help her put things
together. Please leave profiles at the
back of the church as soon as
possible.
To get the manse ready for the
minister’s visit, Neil and Marie
McGavin, Marion Godkin and Pearl
McCallum gave the manse the once
over. The flowerbeds have been
spiffed up by Carol and Bert Reinink
of Sunset Springs Greenhouse.
The anniversary service is this
Sunday with special guest speaker
Eleanor Wood. The service is at 11
a.m. and flowers are welcomed to be
placed around the sanctuary.
