Blyth Lightning U-13 soccer team
held its weekly soccer game on
Sparling’s field, on June 14. Blyth’s
opponents were Lucknow II. Several
players were away for this game, but
there were still three subs to help
give everyone a rest during this
soccer match.
Micah Nonkes covered the net
during the first half of the game and
Hunter Broda took his turn for the
second half. Both players did a
fantastic job and earned a shutout.
Madison Sjaarda set up the ball for
the first goal of the game. Greg
Roetcisoender booted it into the net
to get his team on the scoreboard.
The next goal was all about
teamwork as Blyth really made some
nice passes to get the ball into
Lucknow’s net. Maryke Oudshoorn,
Kody Tachauer and Nadine Otten
worked the ball up the field and
Sheree Uyl gave the final kick as the
ball sailed into the net.
In the second half there were two
more goals scored by Blyth. Uyl and
Nonkes worked the ball up the field
and Sjaarda scored. The last goal of
the night was another great display
of team work as Roetcisoender and
Sjaarda maneuvered the ball around
their opponents. Uyl shot the ball
into Lucknow’s net.
During this game, Blyth’s half-
backs and defence did an awesome
job of getting the ball away from
their opponents and keeping the ball
out of their end. They worked
together to set up the forwards for
some shots on net. The final score
was a 4-0 win for Blyth.

Match for his excellent effort on the
field. Jacob Nonkes gets honourable
mention for his great work at
defence.
A kick too far
Just out of the reach of this defender’s head and the goalie’s reach, this would stand as a goal
for Clinton in U-15 soccer action in Blyth last week. The goal came after Clinton spent a lot of
time in Blyth’s end, with the home team struggling to work the ball out of their zone. (Shawn
