Congratulations to Harold and
Pearl McCallum on celebrating their
55th wedding anniversary.
Marilyn McDonald hosted her
entire family at her home on Sunday.
Food, fun and pictures made for a
full day. When the whole family is
home, 28 people makes for a full
house but it’s lots of fun.
Congrats also go out to John and
Mary Baan who celebrated their
40th wedding anniversary this past
week.
It was motocross at the Walton
track this weekend. It was a combo
race weekend with a Provincial race
and a qualifier race for the Walton
TransCan in August.
The flaggers were Brussels Minor
Hockey parents and players. They
did a great job. The trusty trio of
Judy Lee, Mary Bernard and me are
always amazed by the many
different stories they hear while at
the gate.
Participating in the Dave Clarke
Memorial Run in Dorchester on the
weekend were Lynne, Laura and
Heather Godkin. The youngest,
Heather, ran 1.6 kms in seven
minutes, 35 seconds and won third
in the race. Laura ran in the five-km.
race and did it in 25 minutes, 25
seconds. Mom Lynne ran 10 km. in
51 minutes and 47 seconds.
While the Godkin women are
running, the Godkin men of the
family participate in motocross
racing.
It wasn’t running but walking that
Joan Perrie excels in these days.
Joan participated in the Local
District 29 Huron Perth Middlesex
Senior Games over the past weeks
and they will finish up this week
with a banquet Thursday evening.
At the banquet Joan will receive
medals for three events she
participated in. Joan was successful
in placing first in the Prediction
Walk of three kms. She predicted a
time of 30 min., 04 sec. and finished
in 29 min., 44 sec. – 20 seconds
faster.Joan is also a member of thetriathalon team which includesswimming, biking and walking.Joan’s part is the prediction swimand she was only three seconds offher time and placed first. Hercounterparts were Druiscilla Leachfor biking and she placed secondand Ethel Walker did the walk

team placed second in the event.

17 seconds and was only one second
off finishing in six minutes and 18
seconds.

The month of June is celebrating
Seniors. Brussels Legion Branch is
hosting with a seniors dinner on
Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. On
the menu is roast beef and seniors
are invited to attend for a mere $8.
Seniors chairman Deb Trollope
has arranged a guest speaker and
demonstration.
The Branch appreciates the
patronage and volunteerism of all its
members, but the seniors in the
Branch are fantastic volunteers.
Euchres, Sunday dances, dinners,
fish frys – you will always find a
senior or two pitching in and helping
out. They are a great resource for
ideas, information and fun.
The Friday night supper of roast
beef was very well attended. This
week is salisbury steak and
meatballs.
Saturday night saw the celebration
party for betrothed couple Cyrstal
Devlin and Ivan Wattam. A full
house gathered to wish the couple
well and the proceeds from the night
went to breast cancer research.
The Cadet parent support
committee had a community
pancake breakfast on Sunday
morning. There was only a small
turnout.
The Provincial Service Officer
Randy Groundwater will be coming
to the area in July. If anyone is
wanting an appointment with him
please call Branch Service Officer
Mabel Glanville at 519-887-9086 by
June 21.
The four dart players who
qualified for Provincial play were
off to Gananoque on the weekend.
Playing doubles and for the team
darts were Eric Ross and Anita
Little. The other two team players
were Ron Schmidt and Sara Little.
The four report that they had a
good time but their aim was slightly
off and they did not make the playoff
rounds.
