The Citizen, 2007-06-14, Page 12Recently the Grade 8 class at
Hullett Central PS took a trip to the
nation’s capital. Emily Allen, Corey
Pollard and Jasmine deBoer, share
this report of their experience.
“On Monday, May 28, the Grade
8s from Hullett Central Public
School departed to Ottawa at 6 a.m.
Everyone was excited and ready to
rumble. But after the third hour of
watching Lord of the Rings, the
excitement temporarily died. At 2:30
p.m. we finally arrived at our
destination.
We were guided by our tour guide,
Sarah, through the Museum of
Civilization. Then we checked into
the Radisson Hotel to freshen up for
our meal at the Elephant and Castle.
Day two was better than
anticipated. After breakfast at the
Bay Street Bistro, we visited Sussex
Drive, then had a tour of the
Governor General’s residence. Later
in the day we walked along Ottawa’s
Embassy Row where we visited
Japan, Egypt, Iran, etc.
The Canadian Science Centre and
Technology Museum held many fun
activities and sites such as the crazy
kitchen and solve a murder.
We had a fun-filled two and a half
hours at the Rideau Centre where we
stopped and had lunch. Students and
chaperones spent money on
souvenirs and items for the dance
that evening. After shopping we met
with our MP Mr. Paul Steckle at
Parliament Hill where students were
amazed at all the marble and
woodwork.
Following a brief tour of the
Parliament Buildings we returned to
the hotel to dress for the evening. We
went to a buffet feast and a dance
with another school group from
Sutton. The students had lots to talk
about on the 45-minute drive back to
the hotel at the end of the night.
On Wednesday, May 30, we ate at
Dunn’s Deli where Brent Drost
recognized Ken Dryden and was
lucky enough to get his autograph.
Our final stop in Ottawa was at the
Canadian War Museum where a
veteran spoke to us about tanks and
his experiences in the Second World
War. Our tour guide throughout the
museum, he carefully took the time
to tell us stories behind many of the
artifacts.
After our museum tour we were
treated to a pizza lunch thanks to
Impact Tours.
Our final destination of the trip
was the Hershey Chocolate Factory
an hour out of Ottawa. The thought
of all that chocolate held us all the
way there. The smell of all that
sweet chocolate took over our senses
as we walked in the door. It was
heaven.
Once armed with junk food, we
marched onto the bus only to
discover that it might have some
engine problems. When we reached
Smith’s Falls we realized we needed
to find an auto shop fast. When we
finally got back on the road, we ate a
quick supper at McDonalds
expecting to be home late.
Surprisingly we made it home 10
minutes earlier than we were
expected.”
On Thursday, May 24 the Hullett
School held its track and field meet.
You may recall that was one of those
steamy hot days which likely
precipitated many sunburned
shoulders and noses and the
application of much sunscreen.

must be over 55 years of age, tied
their first game and won the next

winner.
There are 17 men and women
players on the team.
The team will be training hard for
the next couple of months for they
advance now to the next level of
competition on Aug. 14.
Dad would enjoy a stop at the
Londesborough Community Hall on
Sunday morning. The
Londesborough Lions Club will be
serving up an Olde Tyme Country
Breakfast on Father’s Day between 9
a.m. and 1 p.m. The reasonable cost

Jason and Crystal Parks are
planning to hold a large yard sale

village residents will also set up
some tables and make it more
interesting for buyers to come to the
area. There is a poster up at the post
office. If your family decides to do a
yard sale that day, you might
indicate that on the poster.
