The Blyth U-15 girls played
against Bayfield on Wednesday
night.
Blyth quickly moved the ball into
the Bayfield end. Alanna Uyl got
the first shot, ringing it off the
crossbar.
The game settled into a see saw
battle with each team trading rushes.
Blyth defenders Claire Reinink,
Alex Raynard and Larissa Jenkins
were busy keeping Bayfield away
from the Blyth net.
Bayfield got the first break when
they managed to out run the Blyth
defense and got a shot past the Blyth
goalie, Chantal Warwick .
The second half started with Blyth
taking control of the game.
Courtney Bos got the ball up to
Shawna Popp who fed it to Uyl, who
made up for her missed oppotunity
in the first half and scored.
Warwick kept Bayfield off the
score sheet in the second half with
some good saves in the Blyth end.
Aryn Kikkert got the next Blyth goal
with a penatly shot. Laura Peach and
Aislinn Bremner teamed up to carry
the ball all the way up the field.
There Uyl picked it up and fired it
high into the net.
Peach again started the next
scoring play from the Blyth end.
Reinink continued on finding Uyl at
centre. Uyl broke away from the
Bayfield defenders carrying it all the
way to goal and scored.
Blyth defeated Bayfield 4 - 1.
On June 7, the Blyth U-13
Lightning co-ed soccer team
travelled to Goderich to play a very
evenly-matched game of soccer.
Players volleyed the ball up and
down the pitch taking shots on each
other’s net. The wind was really
strong and it found some players not
completing the shots the way they
had planned.
Goderich was first to score after a
Goderich striker neatly kicked the
ball into the bottom corner of Blyth’s
net. Blyth’s keeper, Josh Raynard
made a great effort but just couldn’t
cover the corner before the ball got
into the net.
Blyth didn’t wait long to tie up the
game, however, Greg Roetcisoender
passed the ball up towards the
Goderich net and teammate Hunter
Broda picked up the pass and scored
for Blyth.
Goderich had some lucky breaks
in the second half after Blyth
received two handballs in their
game.
The coach mixed up the players to
try new positions and see if his team
could score a goal. The final whistle
blew and Goderich squeaked by with
a 2-1 win.
Blyth coach, Peter Uyl felt that his
team played a good game of soccer.
The Brussels U-10 soccer squad
enjoyed a big victory over Elma in
recent action.
Scoring the six Brussels goals
were Tim Waechter with two, Carl
Dow with two and Lexi Smith and
Matt Terpstra each with one.
In net were Scott Dolmage and
Eric VanNes.
The final score was 6-1.

Blyth’s U-15 boys soccer teamhosted a game against Goderich I onJune 6.Goderich was the only team toscore in the first half of the gamewhen their player booted the ballinto the top of the net as the ball
skimmed over Blyth’s goalie’s
fingertips.
Blyth had come fighting back and
scored to try to even the score, but
the ref called the goal off as Blyth
was off side.
In the second half, Blyth’s
goalkeeper Jacob VanDorp stopped a
shot, but was unable to stop the
rebound and Goderich scored again.
Goderich scored again after Blyth’s
goalie came out to challenge the ball, and Goderich sneaked the ball intothe corner of the net. Goderichscored a goal on a corner kick to sealtheir lead.Blyth players easily outshot theopposition, but just couldn’t get the
ball past Goderich’s excellent goalie.
Blyth did manage to sneak a ball into
the Goderich net before the end of
the game. Brent Drost booted the
ball over to his teammate Matt
Steele. Steele crossed the ball over to
Brandon Shaff to score a goal for
Blyth.
Goderich played a hard game and
the referee awarded two yellow
cards to their players for being
overly aggressive on the field. Thefinal score was 4-1 for Goderich.Coach Kelly Murray, mentioned toher team that the final score doesn’talways reflect on the way a teamperforms. Blyth played a good gameand should be proud of the
performance from start to finish, as
they never gave up in their quest for
the ball, she said.
Steele won the title Man of the
Match for his excellent play on the
field as halfback. Honourable
mention went to Jordon Rinn who
took a hit, knee to knee, eliminating
him from the rest of the game and
Mark Siertsema for his excellent
effort on defence.
On Sunday, June 10 the Blyth
PeeWee softball team hosted
Mildmay.
Kirby Cook got the nod to start
pitching against a hard hitting
squad. Mildmay pushed three runs
across the plate in both the first and
third innings.
Not to be outdone, the home team
got timely hitting from Ty
Sebastian, Tyler Hallahan and Tyler
Stevenson to score five runs of their
own in the first three innings.
Mildmay got a bases loaded triple
in their last at bat to go up by five
runs. However a great catch by
Shawn Reinink ended the Mildmay
scoring.
Down 10-5 Blyth came to bat
determined to steal the victory. A
lead-off walk by Tyler Black,
followed by a triple from Sebastian,
started the comeback. Walks to
Stevenson and Collin Whitfield set
up singles by Hallahan and Connor
Prescott to score four runs to bring
Blyth to within one run with nobody
out.
Adam Cronin hit a single to score
another run and load the bases
for Kayla Black. K. Black worked
the pitch count with keen eyes to
draw a walk to bring in the winning
run.
Adam Cronin pitched the two last
innings for the victory.
Blyth’s record for the year is now
three wins and one loss playing in
the Western Ontario Athletic
Association.

by Brendan Chester with a 39.

Twenty-six were out for Thursday
night golf action. This crew sold the
problems of past failures to hit the
greens on the par threes by having
the closest to the pin on number two
using the red tees on this hole thus
shortening the distance from 181
yards to 125 yards. Closest to the
pin award was won by Dennis
Knox. There was a tie for low score
with Bill Robinson and Terry Hauck
both coming in with 43s. There was
a three-way tie for third as Bill Kerr,
Dave Gamble and Mark Foxton
were all in with identical scores of
45. The award for longest putt on
number five was won by John
Rozendal. Bill Robinson won the
award for closest to the hidden
