season of the Cadet Corps 2967
Brussels. They held their annual
review at 7 p.m. on May 29 at the
Brussels Legion with family and
friends in attendance.
The chief reviewing officer was
Chief Tim Poole of Wingham Police
Services.
The 25 Cadets marched in and
formed up for inspection and did a
formal march past. The drill team
then demonstrated one of their
routines.
The awards were presented by
various officers and guests.
They went to: Kerkhof Memorial
Award, Pte. Victoria Hinschberger;
Top Junior Cadet award, Cdt. Dillon
Barker; Top Senior Cadet, Sgt. Lance
Stafford; the Esprite De Corps,
MCPL Ashley Muse; Most Improved
Junior, Cdt. Michael Cooper; Most
Improved Senior, MCPL Kyle
Bateman; Warrant Officer Award and
Lord Strathcona award, W.O. Brian
Burgess; Legion Medal of
Excellence, Cpl. Devin Simpson and
the Army Cadet Service Medal, Sgt.
Lance Stafford.
The Cadet Attendance awards
went to Cadets Burgess, Muse,
Struthers, Cooper and Hinschberger.
Special activities awards were
presented to Cadets Burgess,
Hinschberger, Josh Struthers, Barker,
Ashby, Emily Kerkhof, Shiell, and
VanDornik.
Remarks were made by Chief Tim
Poole and other special guests.
Brussels Legion President Jo-Ann
McDonald presented a cheque
to the Corps to use for upcoming
activities.
New members ages 12-18 are
welcome to join in September.
The Friday night supper of
sausage, prepared by Heather
Dauphin, saw near 30 enjoy the
meal. Thanks to Heather for a great
job. This week will be roast beef.
Saturday’s euchre saw 12 1/2
tables at play.
The team to place first with 83
points was Helen and Bea Stoll.
Second place went to Bill and Fay
Alber with 74 points and tied for
third with 71 points each were
Delores Howatt and Dorothy Dalton
and Helen Warwick and Vera
Schmidt.
Low prize went to Helen Lee and
Geraldine Dale earning only 44
points. Lone hand prizes went to
Lillian Appleby and Glen Sellers.
The fish fry crew was off to
Hensall to cook for an elimination
draw. Nearly 150 enjoyed the meal
with cooks Rick McDonald, Glenn
Bridge, Eric Ross, Jason and LeeAnn
Konarski doing a great job.
The Brussels cemetery decoration
service was held Sunday wit Padre
Tom Wilson leading the service
assisted by past president Rick
McDonald. The Brussels pipe band
led the March of Comrades to the
service area.
Members or clergy of the various
churches participated by reading the
honour roll of names and members
who have passed away in the past
year.
The Act of Remembrance Service
from Branch 218 Brussels was
conducted in memory of Comrades
who have passed away.
Following the service, a social
time was held at Branch 218.
The Sunday night dance saw over
100 enjoy the music of the Georgian
Bay Islanders.
There will be no dance on
Father’s Day.
Inspection
Chief Tim Poole took a walk around the room at the Brussels Legion last week inspecting the
cadets’ uniforms. This was part of the corps’s annual review of 2007. In addition to inspection,
the cadets ran drills for the spectators to show what they’ve learned over the past year.
