President Pat Hunking welcomed everyone and read a poem, Practice in Humility. Everyone joined in singing Come In, Come In, and Sit Down and then they recited the UCW purpose. The minutes were read by Muriel Coultes, and Barbara Anderson gavethe treasurer’s report. It was decidedto renew the subscription of 10Mandates for another two-yearperiod.It was also decided to give thechurch $500 towards the Observer Plan. June 12 is the 45th anniversary tea in the church basement at 2 p.m. where past presidents will be honoured. Camp Experience day and the potluck dinner are Monday, June 18 at Camp Menesetung. Anyone goingneeds to take a lawn chair, their owndishes and something for lunch.June 27 the UCW will serve theGrade 8 graduation banquet. The budgeted item for ChristianDevelopment will be given to those attending Westminster Weekend, this year. A thank you note was read from Janisa Coultes. The worship service was conducted by Dorothy Coultes and Wilma Higgins, with Donna Shaw at the piano. Mrs. D. Coultes openedwith a call to worship on song, thengave a prayer and read the scripture,Psalm 98. Mrs. Higgins read ameditation on song, and a hymn wassung. Mrs. D. Coultes closed withprayer. Sheila Nixon introduced the guest speaker, Jodi Benninger of Formosa, who had spent several months volunteering in South Africa. She had gone to South Africa with an International NGO from Michigan and was engaged in HIV Test Counselling while she was there. Most of her time was spent around Durbin and Pinetown, which is an Industrial Place of Work. She visited the Apartheid Museum and the Seven Pillars of New South Africa, built in 1996. She spent some time teaching at the Hope Humana Durbin center which was opened in 2002. She also visited the Hope Zambia Project, New Start in Zambia for a short time. While she was in South AFrica she became aware of the amount of AIDS, orphaned children, and women with AIDS whom she tried to help. Her work was very dangerous, and she is glad to be home safely. Pat Hunking thanked her for telling us of her experiences. Ruth Gordon had made a quilt block which was on display and will be sewn into the quilt to hang in the church at Camp Mensetung. Following a hymn and the UCW benediction, a social time was enjoyed. PAGE 12. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 7, 2007. The players It was a night of talent as the F.E. Madill arts department presented Spring Alive, an evening of dance, music, theatre and performance art. The junior concert band and visual performance art were first to perform, with Soul Bossa Nova, Blitzkrieg Bop, On Broadway and Mission Impossible. (Vicky Bremner photo) UCW, Presbyterian women meet All East Wawanosh students in Grades 1-8 participated in Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, May 11 from 2 - 3 p.m. All students were asked to donate a toonie and they could also collect pledges. As a result the school collected $1,201 for Heart and Stroke. These are the results from the track and field meet held at East Wawanosh Public School on Wednesday, May 23. Mites, first, Sydney Wightman, Josh Gibbons; second, Sydney Michie, Craig Raynard; third, Shelby Higgins, Dawson Coultes. Tykes, first, Ashley Johnston and Jordan Rayner, tied, Trent Michie; second Brett Jarvis; third, Cheyenne Schiestel, Wesley Klages. PeeWees, first, Kaitlyn Michie, Arden Coultes and Braydon Whitfield, tied; second, Megan Stute; third, Tristin Cook, Dallas Ruff-Robertson. Juniors, first, Caroline McDowell, Evan Wesselink; second, Heidi Raynard,Austin Chaffe; third, Laura Higgins, Ryan Stute. Intermediates, first, Carly Whitfield, Ryan Drabiuk; second, Jenny Anderson and Brittany Appleby, tied, Tyler Hallahan; third, Nick Frischknecht. Seniors, Brittany Weber, Cody Stute; second, Loretta Thompson, Trevor Raynard; third, Melissa Leishman, Tyler Stevenson and Matt Hallahan, tied. Ms Stewart, technical resource assistant in the library organized a Silver Birch Party (fiction and non- fiction) on Friday, May 25 from 10:45 to 11:25 a.m. The following students participated in the program: Caitlin Daw, Jesse VanCamp, Brianna Yuill, Judith Hess, Bryce Glousher, Lindsay Shiell, Kathleen Stennett, Sydney Jarvis, Tristin Cook, Stacey Hallahan, Courtney Shearer, Caroline McDowell, Sarah Cook and Heidi Raynard. The Red Maple Party (fiction and non-fiction) was held on May 25 from 1:15 to 1:55 p.m. The following students participated in the program: Matthew Cottrill, Brittany Appleby, Loretta Thompson, Brittany Weber, Wm. Haines, Kevin Pennington, Ryan Shiell, Kelsey Smith, Racheal Stangen, Brittany Haines, Melissa Leishman, Jillian Montgomery, Stephanie Robinson and Bonnie Nethery. The students were asked to dress as one of the characters from one of the books and each participant received a free slice of pizza and cupcake from proceeds raised through our fundraising. Both kindergarten classes went to the Wawanosh Nature Centre on Friday, June 1 in the morning to take part in the Boots, Bubbles and Bugs program. The Grade 6 students have been busy writing the EQAO testing. The Grade 3 EQAO testing took place from Monday, June 4 until Friday, June 8. The year-end awards assembly will be held on Wednesday, June 27 at 9 a.m. The Grade 8 graduation banquet will be held at the Belgrave Community Centre on Wednesday, June 27. A group photo will be taken at 6:30 p.m. in the park and the meal will be served at 7 p.m. in the community centre. The last day of school for the students’ school year will be on Thursday, June 28. Pursuant to the Ontario Municipal Act, S.O. 2001, Part XII Section 391 and Ontario Regulation 244/02, Section 4(1-3), the Board of Directors for the Blyth Hullett Landfill Site will hold a public meeting to consider amendments to the existing Schedule of Rates.
