Blyth had a few players missing, which really affects a small team. However they welcomed a new, first- time player Caleb Haak. Lucknow scored right off the top of the game. Blyth came back in fighting form and scored the next two goals. Brandon Shaff scored into the bottom corner of the Lucknow net, after picking up the pass from Jesse Pot. Pot set up the ball for the next goal for his teammate, Matt Steele to take the lead in the game. Blyth’s lead didn’t last long, however, as Lucknow scored a goal into the top corner of Blyth’s net. Unfortunately Blyth got caught with a handball in the crease and Lucknow seized the opportunity andscored a goal on the penalty shot.Lucknow scored first in the second half of the game after Blyth’s goalie got caught coming out of his crease to challenge the ball. Pot earned his third assist in the game after crossing the ball over to Jordon Rinn, who passed the ball over to Shaff for his second goal of the night. This was a very close game, but Lucknow walked away with the win, edging out Blyth with a score of 4-3. Mark Siertsema won the title Man of the Match for his outstanding effort and good positioning in defence. Jacob VanDorp played a great game and earned honourable mention for his great effort covering the net during the game. Raising the bar Shealyn Devore of Brussels Public School cleared the high jump bar with ease at last week’s track and field competition. Ribbons fluttered everywhere, pinned on students’ shirts showing their achievements over the course of the day. A 66 score by Kincardine Golf Club members Nancy Anderson and Leslie Parsons took second prize. Tied for third with a score of 68 were Wingham’s Luane Sandy Kerr and Sylvia Pewtress and a mixed pair Joyce Leighton of Maitland’s Golf and Country Club and Woodlands’ Judith Weaver. Low gross winners with a 87 were Wingham’s Carolyn Schofield and Carol Oriold. *** It was hot and humid on Wednesday and 14 were out for seniors action. There was a tie for top spot between Bob Johnston and Wayne Gordon. Bill Brown captured the third prize. Wednesday was a special day for Clayton Ruppel as he not only came up with some great shots but celebrated his 87th birthday playing golf. And Clayton puts extra pressure on his playing partners as he still hits ‘em long and straight. Clayton was serenaded by the kitchen staff as they brought out a suitably-decorated cake for the occasion. *** There were 22 out for Wednesday men’s night with no less than five members of the Hopf clan on hand. In the A flight Trevor Hopf captured the low grass with a 38 while there was a tie for the A flight low nets between Roger Keay and Brendan Chester. In the B flight low gross went to Dan McBurney with a 40 and another tie for the B flight low net between Joe Clark and Eric Hopf. Pins were won by Trevor Hopf on number two, Roger Keay on number four and Zack O'Krafka on number eight. Skins were won by Kent McPherson with a birdie on number one and birdies on number four by Jim Sanford, Roger Keay on number seven and Dan McBurney on number nine also resulted in skins awards. *** Thirty golfers were out for Thursday night action. Jack McPherson was the big winner of the night winning the award for the longest putt on number six and also capturing one of the hidden scores with his 48. Keith Cameron, Terry Powell and Doug Neil all tied for the low gross with a 40. Dave Gamble won the award for closest to the pin on second shot on number nine. Looks like this gang have given up on trying to hit the greens on Wingham’s tough par threes. *** This Friday, June 8 is the Musical Muskrat Festival Golf Tournament and Dinner.
