through sales and donation
throughout the two-week display of
the 170 submitted photographs at
the Goderich Public Library. All
proceeds went directly to
Community Living of Central
Huron (CLCH).
“This event provided a terrific
opportunity to partner with Huron
Camera Club, the Goderich Library,
the Goderich Signal-Star, Precision
Print and Carman’s Camera.” said
CLCH representative Rosemary
Foran.
“We are very grateful for the
support of business and community
members. To my knowledge this
event is ‘a first’ for the area and
what a great time to unveil it
during May - Community Living
Month.”
Visitors to the showing were
encouraged to cast their vote for
their favourite ‘last light’ themed
photo. A close finish between the
top five viewer’s choice picks saw
16-year-old Clinton resident Calista
Powell the winner and recipient of a
brand new Fuji FinePix 700 camera
donated by Carman’s Foto Sorce in
Goderich.
The contest’s grand prize winner,
Winnipeg resident Ashley Gropp,
received a $250 cash prize donated
by the Goderich Signal-Star.
HCC member Jenna Ujiye said
that the success and response to the
club’s first-ever contest was
overwhelming, and beyond
expectations.
She said that the club is
considering holding a second show
and sale next year, but they are
contemplating a new theme.
“We’re talking about doing
another show. This one went
over better than we ever could
have expected, and I think that
people like to be able to show
off their favourite photos,” said
Ujiye.
The HCC, in partnership with
CLCH called out to anyone tosubmit their best sunset, or last-light themed shots for the photo contest and sale in memory ofHCC founding member SarahMann. Over 30 photos were sold forprices ranging from $15 to $30,
contributing the bulk of proceeds to
CLCH.
The silent auction winning photos
along with any that did not sell
are available for pick-up at
CLCH.
The HCC is a free, non-for-profit
organization. It is an informal
environment that hopes to inspire
and encourage its members tobecome better photographersthrough monthly meetings, photoassignments and presentations, exhibitions, field trips and guestspeakers. For more information, contactUjiye at 519-525-1627.
