Best Start
A celebration was in order as the Best Start program in Wingham settled into its permanent
home at Sacred Heart School after months of operating in temporary homes. On hand were
several of the adults involved and most importantly, the kids benefitting from the program who
cut the ribbon. Top left: Evy McDonagh, children’s service manager for Huron County, Trisha
Neabel, Best Start staff member and Jane Lane, project manager. Front left: Dawson
Hallahan, Peter Vona, Preston Currie and Brenden Gallaher. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
Continued form page 19campgrounds while on their 3,000km. journey. It was a journey of misadventure
for the first half of the trip which
made them in turn mad, happy,
giggly and finally accepting.
During their two-week trip they
had great weather and had only a
couple of very hot days. Their
destination of Denver was chosen
because Doug Davidson had worked
there for nine months with Bell and
from his stories, they thought it
would be a great place to see. They
visited the Lincoln Tunnel and the
Garden of the God as well as the
huge Denver Flea Market, that
covers approximately 80 acres of
ground and sells everything from
soup to nuts.
Driving through the mountains,
they found snow still abundant with
plenty of bighorn sheep to be seen.
Prairie dogs were plentiful. Driving
through Michigan it was dead deer
along the side of the road that were
plentiful.
Walkie talkies kept them in touch
with one another. They came home
via Illinois and had no problem
going around Chicago. It was a great
trip and great time spent with family.
Congratulations to Jamie and
Jennifer Dalton on the birth of a little
girl named Niamh (pronounced
Neve). She is the first precious
grandchild for Kelly and Sharon
Dalton and was a four-day early
birthday present for Grandma
Sharon.
Great-grandma Mabel Willis now
has three great-granddaughters.
Niamh is the second great-grandchild for Bob and DorothyDalton whose only wish is theywould live closer.
Home to spend time with Floyd
and Pat Hiltz were two of their
children. Son Peter from Calgary
was home for a week to help out and
daughter Susan was there from
Westakawin,Alberta for more than a
week. They were cleaning up
outside and taking part in the yard
sales. They had a family get-together
on Sunday before returning to
Alberta. The rest of the sisters from
Ontario, Sally, Carol, Patty, Jennifer
and Betty and their families gathered
for a great visit and pictures.
Keep your doors and windows
locked and your belongings put
away safely as the thieves are out
and about. They hit a residence on
Moncrieff Road in the night last
week and stole various items from
the garage. The owners were home
but report not hearing a thing.
Get-well wishes to Marjory
Humphries as she underwent knee
surgery last week. We hope she
comes along nicely.
Marilyn McDonald travelled to
Ottawa with her brother Bill and
wife to take sister Janie back to her
home. They were only gone four
days but it’s always nice to have a
change.
Judy Emmrich spent the weekend
in Toronto attending the Canadian
Union of Postal Workers meetings.
She is the president of the Local 215
union. She had a good time
attending meetings and meeting
other folks.
