(Bonnie Gropp photo) It was an important day in the young life of Lerissa Stevenson as she was baptized at Sacred Heart Church, Wingham on Mother’s Day. She was presented by parents Chris and Lisa Stevenson and sponsored by godparents Heather Dunbar and Brian Stevenson. Attending the social event were 25 of Lerissa’s closest family and friends who attended the luncheon and social afternoon at the Stevenson home. Big brother Kyle was very proud and happy to introduce his little sister to everyone. Returning from an unforgettable trip to Denver, Colorado are two couples, Ralph and Joyce Triebner and Doug and Linda Davidson. The service was prepared by Patty Banks and narrator for the service was Marie McGavin. Worshippers were greeted by Paul and Dianne McCallum. The United Church Women’s meeting is June 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Guest speaker will be Cathy Swance speaking on Mission and Service. A food bank item will be gratefully accepted for the roll call. Duff’s Anniversary service is June 24 at 11 a.m. Special guest will be Eleanor Wood, an inspirational speaker. Placing flowers in memory of loved ones around the sanctuary would be gratefully encouraged. Taking part in Duff’s service was Cindy Poland in presenting the scripture. The reflection entitled,What Does It Mean To Be a Family, had participants representing the different members of a family. Taking part were Donna McClure, Dianne McCallum, Bonnie Glanville, Cassandra Banks, Phyllis Mitchell, Patty Banks and Graeme Craig. The choir sang anthem Walk WithMe. The offering was accepted byStan McClure and Paul McCallum.Coffee and muffins were enjoyed following the service. A note of interest to the congregation was that Gail Clarkson, formerly of Duff’s was commissioned as a diaconal minister for London Conference at a ceremony held at Ridgetown College on the weekend. Congratulations to her and best wishes on her future endeavours. The new minister coming to Duff’s is Sandra Yule. In the opening game of the season Walton played well enough to squeak out the 4-3 win over Exeter. Scott Leonhardt was on the mound for the entire game. The next home game for Walton is Tuesday, June 5 at 8:30 p.m. against Belmore. The Goderich Gators made the Brewers one and one on the season, handing them the decisive loss of 13-1. On the mound for Walton was Scott McDonald. No bats, no fielding and no luck contributed to the loss. The Walton Wonders played their first game on Thursday night in the ladies slo-pitch league. Returning to the team after a year off was Susan Alexander. She pitched extremely well in the 14-1 victory for Walton.
