On Wednesday, May 23, Miss
Aarssen’s Grade 5/6 class from Grey
Central Public School took a trip to
Toronto.
They left the school at 6:30 a.m.
Miss Aarssen had cheese, crackers,
cookies and juice available for
students and parents for a morning
snack on their commute.
They arrived in Toronto at 10 a.m.
and hopped on the subway,
travelling from the ROM (Royal
Ontario Museum) southward to
Union Station. Then they took a
walk and enjoyed a view of the CN
Tower, Rogers Centre and the vast
number of skyscrapers.
Next it was on to a street car.
They were able to see some of the
harbourfront and travelled through
China Town.
They then took a short walk to
Queen’s Park where they enjoyed
lunch. The next stop was the ROM.
The group took in an early Chinese
civilizations and Japanese exhibit
and walked through a replication of
a bat cave. Extra time was available
for all to explore the hands-on
biodiversity area, Egyptian exhibit
and the bird area.
At 4 p.m. it was back on the bus
heading homeward. A quick supper
was enjoyed in Milton and they
arrived back at school at 8 p.m.
Also on Wednesday the Grade 8
class, staff members and parent
chaperones went on the graduation
trip.
At 8 a.m., they loaded onto a
Cherrey bus and headed for Toronto.
At 9:30 a.m. they arrived in Milton
for some breakfast and half hour
later they were heading for Toronto
again.
At 10:30 a.m. they arrived at the
Eaton Centre where the class
enjoyed shopping and lunch.
At 1 p.m., they were heading for
the Princess of Wales Theatre, for a
performance of The Phantom of the
Opera.
Following the three-hour
production, they walked to the Hard
Rock Café on Yonge Street.
At 7 p.m., it was back on the bus
heading home. They arrived back at
the school at 9:30 p.m, tired, but full
of memories of their day together.
