On May 22, the second 4-H Sheep
Club (South) meeting was held at the
farm of Les and Deb Falconer, near
Vanastra.
The meeting started off with a
game of flags, led by youth leader
Nicole Moore.
Then members, leaders and
parents went to the barn where they
were told by leaders to judge four
different sheep in the barn.
They had to give reasons why they
placed this group of sheep the way
they did. (They looked for a thick
rump, muscling, straightness, and
length of loin).
President, Brandon Coleman
opened the meeting. Secretary
Amber Brodie read the minutes from
the last meeting.
The members went back to the
house and handed in their health and
safety forms and project animals
identification forms.
Everyone answered the roll call,
“Why are you interested in sheep
housing and equipment?”
Members were also told about the
lamb’s four stomachs, the rumen,
reticulum, omasum and abomasum.
They were told about a sheep’s
digestive system.
They discussed about how to care
for our lambs at this time of the year.
The next meeting will be Monday,
June 25.
