WATERING RESTRICTIONS AND CONSERVATION EFFORTS Auburn Co-op 519-526-7262 Open Saturdays until 4:00 pm Our greenhouses are brimming with beautiful flowers, shrubs, hanging baskets & more Also: ❦ lawn ornaments ❦ fountains ❦ gazebos ❦ beautiful swings ❦ garden seeds, etc. ❦ grass seed ❦ decorative pots ❦ and so much more At last the weatherman co-operated and Wednesday men’snight, at the Wingham golf course, after two weeks of weather wash- out, rolled into initial action with 17 on hand. The Hopf family walked off with top honours as Kevin Hopf captured low gross with a 40, ringing up five pars. In second spot was Brendon Chester and third was John Dailleboust. Low-net winner was Eric Hopf, with Joe Clark second and Kent McPherson third. Roger Lloyd was closest to the pin on number four and Brendon Chester closest to the pin on number eight. No one hit the green on the par-three second hole. Skins were won by Brendon Chester, Roger Lloyd and Joe Clark. *** And again the numbers grew as 30 golfers were out for Thursday night action. Once more a Teeswater golfer hit the leader board as Dave Gamble came in with a 38 for low score. In second was Ed Daer with a 39 followed by Rob Gallaher with 40. Bill Robinson made the longest putt on the fifth green and Rob Gallaher matched the hidden score with his 40. The saying “Wingham par threes are tough” held true. Despite 30 golfers no one was able to hit the green on number eight. *** The first hole-in-one wasrecorded last Friday morning asWhitechurch-area golfer Greg Dwyer sank his drive on the 171- yard par-three, eighth hole. Congratulations Greg. *** Speaking of holes-in-one pro shop employee Michelle Nixon, a first-year golfer came mighty close on the 145 yard, par-three fourth hole. When she sank her birdie putt she was observed by a foursome on the third fairway doing an excitable “Nixon birdie dance”. Well done Michelle. Too bad grandpa Gerry Edwards was not along to enjoy the excitement. *** The Optimist junior golf qualifying tournament was held at the local course with young golfers from Exeter, Lucknow, Listowel, Belgrave, Goderich, Blyth, Brussels and Wingham teeing up in the various divisions.Juvenile boy, Blake Thompson ofListowel had the best score of the day, a nine-hole score of 37. The novice boy winner was Sam Irwin of Lucknow with a 72. The Bantam boys winner was Mitchell Vandergunst of Exeter with a 44 and Brett Phillips of Lucknow captured the junior division with a 43. In the girls division it was a sister act as Brittany Appleby of Wingham was the winner with a 71 in the bantam-novice division and sister Alicia Appleby with a 51 was crowned the juvenile/junior girls winner. All division winners were presented with trophies by Optimist Margaret Webster. All players were winners as they had a free round of golf and all enjoyed the burgers, fries and pop supplied by the Optimist club.
